Word on the street is a lot of artists who where asked said no because of the lip-synching requirement. With the exception of K-os and Neil Young, who managed to negotiate going live, all the 'performances' in both opening and closing ceremonies were off tape (including Sarah and kd lang, sadly, who we know can kill it live). That's probably why they ended up with an embarrassing C-list of Canadian talent. All the top guns said 'thanks, but no thanks'. It's a shame, because Canada produced some amazing musicians, and what we saw from VANOC was really shameful. :(

I'm still not happy with how NBC covered the closing................they chose to cut to their new show for a half hour then come back after our local news at 11:30pm!?

Really?

That's probably a good thing. The musical section towards the end was largely shameful. The fewer people that saw it, the better...

Yeah, NBC's coverage was really weird. Besides the breakaway from 10:30-11:30 p.m., they interrupted coverage of one of the singers in order to ask American athletes dancing on the floor the same questions they've been asked over and over. If I were a big fan of that performer (can't remember her name) I'd have been mightily ticked off.

Thanks scielle - Interesting insight about lip syncing!

I can't believe NBC cut over to Seinfeld's The Marriage Ref so abruptly. Tarnished my opinion of their coverage, which I thought was pretty good overall, at least on the East Coast where we saw plenty of events live. The good thing was I got to bed earlier than I thought I would. I have no interest in the new show, and I wasn't going to stay up extra late for the last hour of the Ceremony.

NBC replayed the entire Closing Ceremony without the big interruption a few hours later. I recorded it, just to make sure I didn't miss anything.
