Diana Krall's concerts: From bland to grand

Where other singers at that show -- which also featured Barry Manilow, LeAnn Rimes, Leona Lewis and "Glee's" Lea Michele -- appeared ill-equipped to put their own stamp on songs long associated with Streisand, Krall soared with her infectiously swinging version of "Down with Love."
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2011 ... and-grand/Plus, this tidbit that I don't recall seeing before:
... while her next solo album is due in 2012.

There's also a less-than-glowing review of another show here:
http://www.examiner.com/swing-and-big-band-in-national/review-diana-krall-solo-concert-disappointing-reviewPoints of note:
a) a new DK-EC song called "Home", and
b) she played a ukulele!
Again, not a great review, but the last two paragraphs are pretty revealing about the writer! I smell a little old-timer resistance to change going on here...a little "they just don't make them like they use to" and suspicion of anything new. Me, I'd love to see this solo show. Hope she brings it to the UK.

New Diana-Elvis song? Sounds promising... I hope her next album will be in this direction

Thanks for Harrah's Rincon preview article, Bud. I'll be there Sunday night, dutifully writing down the set list for you all.
Scielle, This examiner.com writer is an utter hack. I'm not even going to get into it because I'm having a fine day and don't want to get myself upset.

Thanks to all for the newsy items.
What George Varga wrote about the venue reminds me of my first Diana concert in London, Ontario, in October 2001, at Centennial Hall. I had a great seat (Row D center!) It's a rather small venue, with maybe 2000 seats and a flat main floor. It was the run-up before her "live in Paris" CD and video. Anyway, after a couple songs, Diana stopped, smiled and really looked at the audience with a very satisfied twinkle in her eyes. Then she told us that we made it feel like a club for her. (She also said in some places, she felt as if she were playing to a bunch of oil paintings.) What a great thing to hear for my first DK concert!

The only worthwhile tidbit from the negative review is the mention of Peel Me a Grape. I'm not the biggest PMAG fan, but I know it's return will make many people happy!
