I recently knew that one of the major Music Summer Festivals in Portugal (Paredes de Coura) has implemented, since last year's edition, what they call Jazz na Relva (Jazz on the grass).

It is a space in the festival's area where some jazz artists perform during the days of the festival.

Personally I find it a quite interesting iniciative since the audience of these festivals are mostly into a more "rocky" genre of music. I'm not saying it is incompatible (I am myself a fan of DK, EC, Chet baker among others, and of Metallica at the same time) just not a "natural" mixture.

Anyway, congratulations to the organization for such an iniciative.

i like the idea....i think festivals should try and encourage all groups of music. and hey if the turn out is good..then why not right. our jazz festival here in the last few years has been incorporating pop artists....at first i really hated it....and at times i wonder if they should still call it a "jazz festival". but people turn out to those concerts...so hey if they bring them they will come!

and not only that...it brings up the old conversation---isn't music universal? lol

I think that we should be open to any kind of music and give it a listen before making any judgements. I may listen to some high quality pop or rock music with the same pleasure I hear to DK or Chet. There are times and moods to every genre.

Therefore, I really believe that music festivals' organizations should bet on diversity since and eclectic programme can appeal to a wider audience and, simultaneously, reveal new artists nad new genres to people who, in other circunstances, may not be "exposed" to such diversity.

But that's just my opinion. May the purists forgive my heresy
