Weird Al Yankovic

My boys love Weird Al Yankovic. Any other people here who enjoy his stuff? I think he's a talented musician in his own right, but I love his take-offs of songs. I especially love his music video take-offs. Lately my youngest son and I have been watching Weird Al's collection of videos, especially the "Spyhard" theme. He's got a great send-up of the James Bond theme and the blobbycolor opening scenes with people silhouetted in the backgroun! And Weird Al's song, "The Saga Begins," is, I think, an excellent summation of the plot of "Star Wars" as well as a great parody. He also does parodies of Michael Jackson's video for "Beat It" (Weird Al's version is "Eat It") and "Bad" (the parody is "Fat.") Great for quick laughs!

He has also done a take-off of Madonna's "Like a Virgin" (his version is "Like a Surgeon.") But I can't imagine him doing any parodies of Diana's videos. ;)

Well, Coda, you had to wait a long time, but now you will finally be validated:

I like WAY. I was in junior high when his first song came out, "Ayatollah" (sung to the tune of "My Sharona"), which, as I recall was recorded in a bathroom at Cal State San Luis Obispo where he was studying architecture. When I was in Grade 9, his "Another One Rides the Bus" (I'll leave it to you to guess what that parodied) was a big hit at my school.

His videos are always very clever, and "Fat" is one of the all-time greats.

Well, Eric, I think it's "Another One Bites the Dust."
