Bathtubs? Yes. In July, contestants in the 2005 Great International World Championship Bathtub Race will attempt to sail modified bathtubs from Nanaimo's Harbour to the Departure Bay Beach. Part of the annual Nanaimo Marine Festival, this 38-year-old tradition attracts seafarers from around the world.

Well, neither, actually, as I'm half a continent away right now. But, I was in Nanaimo over the weekend and picked up a brochure about the event, complete with this web address for all interested: http://www.bathtub.island.net
And yes, this is entirely serious. They actually have something called 'Loyal Nanaimo Bathtub Society' - gotta keep self entertained, I suppose...
