Hello gang!
So I was just thinking about the summer movies out there and what's coming up in the near future. I'm a big movie junkie, so it's always fun to find out what my DK people are seeing lately.
I just saw Farenheit 9/11 and can I just say: WHOA!! Michael Moore put together not only a very good documentary, but highly entertaining, as well. I liked this even more than Bowling For Columbine. I'd give it two thumbs up - no wait, I'm going to go over board here - I'll give it three thumbs up. I cried, laughed, was sad, happy, optomistic and angry. It's quite a film that can run you through all of those emotions in 2 hours.
I also just saw The Terminal a week ago. I really liked it right up until the end. Tom Hanks was really good but I thought Stanley Tuccy stole the movie. And I gotta say, Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta-Jones have no chemistry together. None, nadda, zilch. But the movie was funny in a lot of places and if you haven't seen it yet, I would go see it at matinee prices - it's not quite worth the $10 I paid.
I'm really excited to see De-Lovely next weekend. I love Kevin Kline and I'll see any movie if DK's making a cameo. Heck - I even saw Anything Else and I thought that was a train wreck of a film!
So what are you guys seeing these days? Any other junkies?

I'm not a junkie by a long shot; with a 10 yr old, I mostly see kids' films. But Mrs TC & I did see "The Day After Tomorrow" recently, and I thought it was pretty damn entertaining. Some of the weather scenes in the beginning were pretty awesome. I'd recommend it.

But I did get a DVD player for fathers day, and I recently watched "JAWS" on DVD. The BEST movie of all time!!!

I plan on seeing Fahrenheit 9/ 11, too one of these days. Though I dare say I'd be seeing it with a bit more of a jaundiced eye than you were (not a big Moore fan). But I'm interested.

I saw 'The Day After Tomorow', too. Great big-budget disaster flick, which is exactly what it is supposed to be. Just don't expect it to be a course in rocket science.

I saw 'The Stepford Wives', which had enough plot inconsistencies to drive a Hummer through, but I suspect the femenist crowd will adore it.

Absolutely loved 'The Chronicles of Riddick', if not for the art direction alone. I'm a fan of 'Pitch Black', which really was not your average, run-of-the-mill 'horror' movie. Vin is great as the anti-hero in both movies.

Looking forward to Spider-Man 2 on Wednesday, as I'm sure a lot of people are.

The only one I've made it to so far has been "Shrek 2." I'd like to see "Harry Potter" and "Spiderman."

I can't stand Michael Moore. He is a big, fat liar. He takes parts of facts and twists them to suit his purposes. A partial truth is a whole lie.

For the record, I've gotten to be a worthless stay-at-home-and-watch-movies-on-my-own-end-of-the-world-video-audio-system that allows me to not be on my best behavior and laugh at inappropriate times or curse the actors on my own lavish reclining leather sofa or chair.
While not wearing shoes or socks...

I am not a huge fan of seeing movies in the theater - it is more comfortable to sit at home and watch them on the tube with the DVD. So I haven't seen any really recent movies. HOWever, we did rent "Girl With a Pearl Earring" last week and I loved it. Wow, that was well done in my opinion.

TC - Your chuckle about "Jaws" made me laugh. We have been on a "Rocky" Fest at my house, I think I got Rocky II or III last week for my birthday. My girls love the "Rocky" movies. It may have something to do with their boxing mom.

Excellent! That's a good thing, as long as you stop at Rocky III. None of the later sequels are worth the honor of being included in the same breath!

I have to say I find it disappointing that people use ad hominem attacks about Michael Moore's appearance to discredit his film. And although it's called a documentary, Moore has said in interviews that he considers it an "op/ed" piece...using facts, but definitely having a point of view he's trying to convey. Beyond that, I have a few things to say about the content of the movie. We did see it. I think some of the things included in the movie are gratuitous, like the reference to Bush sleeping on fine French linen the night before the 9/11 attacks. (I couldn't find a purpose in saying that.) And Moore does "cut and paste" quotations or clips together at times (which is his artistic prerogative), such as the repetitive clips of Bush connecting Iraq to Al Qaeda. And there are clips of people who are being filmed, who don't think anyone will ever see what they're doing (and I think we've all been in that position some time in our lives.) He shows Wolfowitz spitting on his comb to fix his hair before an on-camera interview and he shows Bush rolling his eyes and making funny faces right before he tells the American people on March 19, 2003, that we've started bombing Iraq. But there are some stand-alone vignettes that I think no reasonable person could say was taken out of context. I'm thinking especially of the white-tie dinner that Bush is addressing. Bush tells the crowd that this is a gathering of "the haves and have-mores." Then he says: "This is my (political) base." I think those self-contained vignettes are more powerful for their simplicity than some of the other parts of the movie where Moore does a voice-over trying to mind-read what Bush is thinking, like when Bush continues to read and stare blankly in a school classroom right after he is told about the WTC catastrophe.

Okay. That's my two-cents' worth.

My three last movies were:
- Kill Bill Vol.2, Ladykillers (Tom Hanks has become one of my favorite actors) and tonight I went to see Shreck 2 (in original version) and I must say this is the best "movie" I have seen since the beginning of this year. I immediately recommend it to everyone: 1h30 of pure crazyness and delight!

Although I consider myself a fanatic I have been away for quite a time so I lost touch with what's to come. However, since I have a little brother who is up to date, lol, I'm looking forward to see Shrek 2. I loved the first one... And I hear this one is even better. Being a big fan of Garfield I had to be excited about his up-coming movie too.

About "serious" cinema. As I said, I'm a little out of touch. Last movie I saw was Day After Tomorrow with some friends. Interesting movie I think, not the summer flick I thought it'd be.

Wow - there's some major Moore bashing going on with the conservatives in this forum. But whatever, that's your business. I wonder if either of you have actually even seen the film before you started your bashing.

What I really wanted to talk about was De-Lovely. Kelly (SaxLix) and I saw it this weekend. I think we were both a bit bored with the movie, which is too bad because I really like Kevin Kline. But we both perked right up when we saw Diana's cameo. She looked and sounded lovely, but something piqued our attention - Diana was sucking the ear off of one of the characters! I guess her character was supposed to be Louis B. Mayer's mistress (although that wasn't well established), but neither of us expected to see Diana make a meal out of this poor actor's ear! We were laughing hysterically! I'm sure the other 5 people in the theater with us were wondering what we thought was so funny, but we were laughing our asses off! Elvis' cameo was crazy. He was dancing around like a clown - had he painted his face and put on a red nose, it would have been perfect. Anyhow, the movie wasn't that great (kinda boring) but the ear-sucking made the price of the movie worth it. I got a great laugh out of it.

Actually imno, I'm very curious to watch Farenheit 9/11. I just forgot to mention it in my previous post.

I'm more into independent films!!...I want to see Coffee and Cigarettes, Facing Windows, Control Room, Napoleon Dynamite, A Day Without A Mexican. I also want to see Dodgeball!...as for the Moore thing...i don't think i want to give him my money or my time...his lies aren't worth it!!!

Wow - there are some hard core Michael Moore haters out there. How many of his films have you seen? Or are you just spouting rhetoric fed to you by your political affiliation? The facts of Moore's movies are true. Obviously, his films are left-biased and he did take creative license to drive home his liberal point, but the facts are the facts and there's no disputing that (even if you don't agree with him).

As for seeing Shrek 2, it's on my DVD rental list.

I was going to see it but I was to late. There was a guy ahead of me at the consession stand that bought 10 Buckets of Extra Ginormous Popcorn, 20 Chocolate Bars and 15 Bags of Chips. When he turned around, it all made sense................It was Michael Moore.
