Diana Krall returning to stage
Five months after delivering twins, Diana Krall will return to the stage to help raise funds for healthy babies.
The Canadian jazz singer will be the featured entertainer May 6 at the Mount Sinai Hospital Auxiliary Gala at Toronto's Roy Thomson Hall. Proceeds will benefit the Auxiliary's $3.5 million "Healthy Babies" pledge for the Women's and Infants' Health Program at the hospital.
Krall, 42, gave birth to twin boys, Dexter and Frank, on the third anniversary of her marriage to UK singer Elvis Costello, 52, last December.
"(They) are grand little boys and full of beans," Krall wrote in a message to fans posted in mid-March on her official Web site. "Sleep often seems like a distant memory but we are all having a wonderful time."
Krall, who was born and raised in Nanaimo, B.C., said she and Costello play music by Cat Anderson, Howlin' Wolf and "Nellie the Elephant" for their sons.
"I have even been able to play the piano for them on occasion without complaint," she added.
Krall's benefit performance is a warm-up for a possible summer tour.
Since 2000, the Grammy-winning pianist has received the Order of British Columbia, an honorary degree from the University of Victoria and a star on Canada's Walk of Fame. She was also made an Officer of the Order of Canada.
