Brokaw Goes Boom!

Postby Bud on 15 Dec 2007, 16:32

So I have Tuck & Patti, Diana Krall, Norah Jones...then I have my old favorites that come out of that era a little more, I'm more inclined to the more melodic sounds of Simon and James Taylor, but I also have some Stones on there, the classics, some Beatles songs...I have a daughter in music, she's the vice-president of brands and marketing at Warner's, so she's kind of my guide now. And I've got my 50s jazz — I've got Chet Baker and there's a wonderful jazz guitarist by the name of Jim Hall who I've known a long time... and the way I got to know Diana Krall is that she was a protégé of on of my favorite jazz pianists by the name of Jimmy Rolls.

Tom Brokaw - nice taste! Tuck and Patti and Diana mentioned side-by-side - I think Tom and I could hang out together :D

I first heard Tuck and Patti when they played at a friend's wedding in the early 80s. They were playing the local club scene in the Bay Area then, and I used to go hear them almost weekly in a little restaurant in Saratoga, CA, which is long gone. No tickets or anything - I usually just bought a carafe of wine. I've followed them since then, and I've seen them in concert too many times to count. They make it out to DC once or twice a year, either playing at Blues Alley or Birchmere. My current number of live Diana shows is a distant second to the times I've seen Tuck and Patti!

I read Huff Po now and then myself. Thanks for sharing, Bud! Much appreciated!

Every day, to myself I say,
Point the way, what would it be?
I ask myself what's the best thing for you,
And myself and I seem to agree,
That the best thing for you would be me. ... :)

I really should read it more than I do. My habits are this site, Murmurs.com, an REM fan board (fun place with a fair amount of traffic), thegolfchannel.com discussion boards (less so lately - heavily populated with cranky men), nytimes.com, slate.com, theonion.com, rasmussenreports.com, realclearpolitics.com, yahoo sports, and washingtonpost.com, as well as some other political sites and some relating to science and medicine. I get to huffpo only now and then - probably should get other there more.

Any of you have any especially good sites to recommend that I don't know of? My eyes and ears are open, though my time is limited. ...
