Diana plays at OP's funeral (+ wonderful interview)

Postby scielle on 29 Dec 2007, 16:14

According to Canadian Press, Diana performed When Summer Comes at Oscar Peterson's funeral on Friday.

Also, CBC had Diana live on the phone from Nanaimo on Christmas Eve, in a really wonderful and touching interview about Oscar. Runs ~13 min. As far as DK interviews go, I think this is the most earnest & personal conversation I've heard. Make sure to listen while the podcast is still available.

This is lovely, Scielle. Thank you! This is going on my iPod, into my "Divine Diana" playlist. Won't play it as much as "East of the Sun" or "I Remember You," but I will play it now and then. :)

Point the way, what would it be?
I ask myself what's the best thing for you,
And myself and I seem to agree,
That the best thing for you would be me. ... :)

Well, Coda, in addition to reflections and sadness at the loss, Diana expressed a lot of gratitude as having been so fortunate as to have become so close with Oscar and his family. Alot of what she said in that regard was much along the same lines as in her Jazziz interview. She spoke some about how happy she is nowadays and spoke of her fondness for and devoted listenership to the CBC ("As It Happens," as you may know, is a CBC-produced show). It was very nice.

Question: Coda, do you have iTunes? You may need it in order to get the podcast. I am relatively unsophisticated, though, so I don't know.

scielle - Thanks for posting this great interview. I agree with you - it is earnest and personal.

The link is a downloadable mp3 file. Besides iTunes, you can play it using applications such as Quicktime, Windows Media Player, and RealPlayer...

thanks for the link. It was a very lovely interview. I have a couple of Oscar Peterson's cd's (first time I listened to him was on Diana's Starbucks cd), and I really like the music. He was a great great talent who will be missed.
