My local jazz radio station has been playing Diana's album. Here's their websit: http://www.ewu.edu/x5082.
So far I've heard 'Your My Thrill' and 'Where or When'.
This station is part of Eastern Washington University, located in Cheney, WA. They do a great job of supporting jazz.

Okay, I thought I would finally weigh in on the album. I just bought the CD today. (I wanted to do that sooner, but I just couldn't get to an appropriate store right away.) Of course, I'd already heard Diana play certain songs on her appearances. But I wanted to take Bud's advice to sit down and listen to it carefully.

I appreciate that it's a concept album. It does stay in a slow groove for the whole album, which could be either a big plus or a big minus. When I first started listening to it, I wasn't doing anything else, and I think that I tried too hard to listen to it. I needed to pause and then picked it up again about an hour later. But I also wanted to do a crossword puzzle and drink some tea while I was listening to it the second time, so that's what I did. When I did that, I found myself in a different place with the album. So I would recommend listening to it while you're doing something else that's pleasant.... ;)

I think Claus's orchestrations are lush, as usual, and maybe even better than with Frank Sinatra's album with Jobim.

I don't think I'd want to listen to this album all the time, but at certain times, yes.

That said, I hope that Diana's next album offers us a greater variety of tempos. I like Diana's singing and have enjoyed listening to her singing ability evolve over the years. I think it's really developed in range, especially after Dex and Frank were born. (I have no idea if there's any connection, but I do think Diana is generally less self-conscious about herself now, so maybe that's why.) Anyway, I think this album doesn't offer Diana a showcase for her full vocal talent, so I hope another album, and her concerts, will show off her more of her singing and piano skills.

I liked QN, just some songs, like "walk on by". Great orchestra. But I didnt LOVE it though, & for the following reasons: It IS too breathy, As some of you have pointed out earlier . Maybe Diana tried to adapt to the low beat, whispering mood of Bossa, but there's something missing there. somethings off. Not soulful enough. Makes me want to grab it , shake it and pump life into it, before it codes. (ive been watching too much Grays anatomy hhehe) !!

Another thing I think she should steer away from is singing in a foreign language that she doesn't speak well, especially Spanish and Portuguese. As a spanish speaker , I can say it just sounds sooo odd and fake. I remember LOATHING "besame mucho".

All in all , I think she did a nice work. BUt it doenst stand a chance next to my favourite jazz gems like " All for you" r "when I look into your eyes".

;)
Bye 4 now

So judging by this, looks like Quiet Nights is a winner in the sales department. Good. Hopefully that means Diana can afford to do a 'less populist' record next time around. I miss the days of GITOR and AFY... Honestly, I think QN is her weakest album to date. Hopefully this current tour winds down soon so she can focus on something new.
