This day in history

Nanaimo's Diana Krall, 19, won her third major award, a $1,000 scholarship from the Women's Jazz Festival of Kansas City, on the strength of a tape she sent. She won two awards from Boston's famed Berklee school of music thanks to a performance at the Vancouver Jazz Festival. The tape had three songs: 'Seems Like Old Times,' 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' and 'Hard Hearted Hanna.'

And another blast form Diana's past:

Luvisotto took piano lessons as a child – from a young woman in town named Diana Krall – and picked up the clarinet in Grade 6 under the direction of Dan Hudson.
(...)
As a student, Luvisotto had Krall to look up to, while students today also have Ingrid and Christine Jensen and David Gogo.
(...)
“That’s a key to success to have mentorship,” Luvisotto said. “Brian [Stovel] and Steve [Jones] still mentor me.”

Interesting - I've met Carmella a few times in passing, but never realised she had studied with Diana. She's now one of the top jazz educators in Canada - her studends and ensembles consistently win all the top scholarships and awards.
Well, hers and Brian Stovell's - who's still teaching jazz over in Nanaimo.
It's either him, or there's something in the water over there.

Wouldn't it be great to hear these performances!!!

I collect versions of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and I would LOVE to hear Diana sing that one!

I agree! Somewhere Over the Rainbow is one song I have always wanted to hear Diana sing. I just think she would do an amazing rendition of this classic!
