Well, this kind of "smart moves" made by record companies makes me nervous

I agree. This penalizes those who bought the CD right away.

I'd think Verve wouldn't capitulate to the trend of every record company thinking they have to put out a "Special Edition" with a DVD attached. Verve has always been above the fray of late in a recording industry you can easily call nefarious. But I can see why they do this in order to make a bigger profit since MP3's are ending the age of the CD, at least right now. It just looks too obvious, though, rather than making an effort to make the initial CD as...yes, spesh-al as possible.

Well, having a DVD of Diana performing these songs live is well worth it if you're a fan of her Bossa performances as I am. Because a lot of people apparently were not, it's a shame they didn't release this concurrently with the initial CD. A lot of artists release both concurrently to give people a choice and in order to give the diehard fans something to get excited about early. Since too many of DK's admiring fans didn't warm to "Quiet Nights" after buying and listening, this may not sell as well as it could have back in May.

Here's one wish: Seeing the "Quiet Nights" promo video in hi-def. The only time I saw it was on Amazon.com in a tiny media player box and low resolution. Those stunning sights of South America and Diana walking (and swimming) through it should be seen in 1080p on this DVD.

Diana and Elvis singing "Makin' Whoopee?" That might be worth the price of the whole DVD, though the abstract of it makes me think of more than twins for them in the near future. :eek

Yes, I think such tactics will encourage me to wait a while before buying another CD. I think the video should have been offered right away, as an incentive for those who still like and enjoy the whole CD/album experience. :(

Despite all the respect I have for Diana and her major Verve, I don't really understand the necessity to release this edition. Is it really worth of ? They should have added some other features in it.
I have an example...

As usual, the great, excellent and inimitable Mark Knopfler - to quote only my master :D - has just released his new album. I bought what it is called the Deluxe Limited Edition and it includes the following:
- 1 CD + DVD of the album (that's the common stuff from MK)
- 1 CD of 3 new songs
- 2 documentary DVDs
- 2 vinyls
- 3 engraved poker chips (just for fun)
- 2 branded "MK" craps dice
- 1 guitar tab
- 1 classic gig ticket (limited edition replica).

Check it out here.

Now, Verve, since you are behind all of it actually, I don't underestimate you in your commercial point-of-view -because I don't really care - but you are VERY VERY VERY VERY far from what could be expected from real fans for what is called a "Deluxe Edition"...

May I advice you to phone Mark Knopfler and ask him suggestions or ideas on how to make a very special edition of Diana's work ?

Think about it.

From the Amazon description:
This two disc collection includes a DVD of her May 29th performance in Madrid, Spain.

Hi FrankD - Nothing from the Madrid concert has been released before, so the DVD part is new.

I agree, this stinks. But at least the price isn't THAT much more than the original CD. I'm buying it.

I have Japan edition of Quiet Nights http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=UCCV-9371
I still don't know what will I do with the Deluxe edition. I'd like to have bonus DVD with live numbers form Spain, but at the same time Japan edition was more than 30$, without shipping to Croatia...
