Alan Broadbent and "P.S. I Love You"

Postby Bud on 20 Nov 2009, 22:56

Speaking of “P.S. I Love You": I learned it as a kid from Johnny Mathis (I think it was the flip side on a 45 of “Chances Are"). When I conduct for Diana she occasionally sings it as a solo feature and I never fail to choke up. The first time I heard her do it I could hardly conduct the next number from weeping uncontrollably. The way she sings it, It's the first time I really understood that the person writing has nothing in particular to say and that everything is said behind the words.

Yes, sometimes I wonder if Diana knows what a gift she has for interpreting lyrics with her voice. I was just listening to "Let's Get Lost" on my mp3 player and every time I hear it, I'm in awe of how she interprets it -- just right in the groove!

Good point, Coda!

I'm pretty sure the gift that you speak of is what has kept my interest as a fan for all these years.

I'm in total agreement here. One of the reasons I love to listen to Diana is how she 'tells a story' with her songs and how she makes one 'feel' the song. I just don't know of too many other artists out there that I can listen to over and over again and find such joy in listening too.

As we approach Thanksgiving I must say I am thankful for finding Diana's music and voice several years ago as she has been there many times for me.
