I can't anwer your thought provoking question of what it means to be a conservative. You left the fundamentalist equation out. That's the real kicker to mess life up a bit. I'm not striving to be a conservative. There are too many.
The thing about the pretzels is a problem because then we would be forced to have even more of Dick Cheney.
What I saw recently on TV was "Ike" warning us of the Military Industrail Complex back in the 1950's. Does any one else recall that time in history?
It goes well with the Patti Page topic.

Char
"Classy, classy, classy- Diana Krall is one of those rare talents who could make a recipe for spaghetti carbonra sound seductive.

Well imnoangel...if you actually read my comment you would see that no where in it do i specifically say that we all should not talk about politics in this forum. What I do say, so clearly, is that I was under the impression that we here at Diana Krall's Forum are not suppose to talk/write about politics (Rule #6)! No way do I come across as hypocritical; I did not say we shouldn't speak of politics I just pointed out that last time we all decided to voice our political views, we were advised not to. My comment about your "great president, Bill Clinton" was not only my opinion but also my way of proving that when a conservative speaks, moderators enforce.

People :

Somehow I always seem to have the damn skill to spark unwanted discussions in this forum. :anger: I had forgotten about rule #6 when I posted in this thread (which, in my opinion, was just a tongue-in-cheek comment) . I apologise again, and again and again. Let's stop the madness, please!! ;)

Can anyone explain to me the "pretzel " stuff?

Sparking discussions is not a bad thing. If we were all exercising restraint all the time then the place would be flatout boring.

The FAQ doesn't exactly prohibit politics. As long as we can tolerate different views and express disagreement without firing at each other or being otherwise agressive ...

Now I would like to respond to Jazzandianafan's comment, about not being able to go to Diana's charity events. Man, I understand. One cannot avoid feeling excluded sometimes and, sure it hurts. But for this kind of bash the reality is that they need fat cats, period. Life is not really fair, you know that, hmm ?
By the way, who has got a damn good picture of himself with DK on it ? :D

A few years ago, while Bushie was watching the Superbowl, he choked on a pretzel and lost consciousness.

It was, in my opinion, one of his finer moments. ;)

Believe it or not, I actually know the person who saved President Bush during this incident. I haven't been in contact with him for a long time, but the President's personal physician is the brother of one of my college roommates...

$2,000?! :eek

That's kind of my point..... the average 'real' DK fan is not a Hollywood star or an ex-president, but an average working stiff who buys the CDs and goes to the concerts and supports the music...... DK and jazz as a whole...... that is the kind of fan who is being shut out of this event due to the price. Not just the ticket price; but there is the travel cost, the tux rental (most of us don't have a tux in the closet), the accomodations, etc...

I have been lucky enough to meet Diana twice and have my picture taken; that is true..... but I am not able to support her in this event simply due to the pricetag attached..... and while I understand that it is a fundraiser, I also am a bit dismayed that her 'regular' fans are frozen out of participating....

In a perfect world, I would like some tickets set aside for 'real fans' at a reduced rate. And, knowing that those seats would be at the rear of the event, I would like some sign of recognition of those fans who attended (at a much greater personal cost than many of the more wealthier attendees). Yes, some revenue would be lost, but the fan base that made Diana able to draw the attention she does would also be acknowledged and appreciated.

I really don't mean to detract from the event. I just wish the regualr fans were a part of it....

I would like to be able to attend this also, and the price tag is too high for me too, but I do understand the reason for the price. This is really a very big fund raising event and if past success shows anything it is that Diana can demand a very high price for her talent when it's for a cause she believes in very much. I personally say the higher the price for these tickets the better as it will only make the event more successful. Now, it would be nice to maybe have a couple of tickets available to the general public or her "fan club", but I think I'd rather let the rich and powerful fork out this kind of money and get to hear only a few songs and let the rest of us look for our turn to hear a full concert for less money!

I just think it is nice for the fundraiser to give someone outside the small group of people who normally attend these type of events to have a chance to attend.

I'm just hoping she has a couple of concerts in my neck of the woods this year sometime, Seattle, Vancouver, Portland, etc., as I'm planning on getting to those venues some how! :D

Thanks for the thought, Verena...... but save your money for something more mundane...... like food !!!

For fans like myself who cannot attend, you can still support a great cause..... just use this link to make a donation to the Krall Family Endowment Fund at the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation.....

...JFK's administration didn't push the Civil Rights Act through.
Kennedy was a moderately skilled politician-as far as getting things done in Washington. He and his brother Robert disparaged VP Johnson (only had him as VP to balance the '60 ticket) and didn't appreciate his political skills in moving legislation during that era.
After Kennedy's assassination-Johnson; a Southern liberal, rammed the Civil Rights Act through congress with help from Northern Republicans.
This turned the South over to the Republicans for this and future generations.
President Clinton's mentor, William Fulbright-an Arkansas Democrat,
opposed the 1964 Civil Rights Act, as did Albert Gore, Senior...

We have set aside some tickets at a reduced rate. They are for patients who are living with multiple myeloma and other blood related cancers.
That is who this event is for. It's about the cause. This is a family event and it is all about raising awareness of multiple myeloma and funds for the Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant Program at Vancouver General Hospital.
This is not a "concert" where we sell tickets to the public, but a private fundraiser hosted by Diana and her family. We have released two tickets to this benefit on eBay. The only way we can keep our family event small and intimate and still raise funds for patients is by raising money through sponsorships and auction donations. There were no individual tickets for sale. It is a private event by invitation only.
There are many friends and family members of ours who we would love to have attend, but they understand that this a fundraiser and not a Diana Krall concert. I hope you will, too.

I hope that you understand my remarks, Michelle. I understand that this is a fundraiser and not a conventional concert. But how often does one get to hear Tony Bennett, Elvis Costello, Diana Krall & Bill Clinton (will he be playing the sax ?!) on the same ticket !!

I have recieved invitations to this event in the past (not this year however). It just would have such a great event to attend - and us fans want to support the Foundation also - we just have to do that on a different level. That's why I encouraged contributions thru the VGH & UBC website.

I think it is great that you set aside some tickets for patients. That is very nice. I really do wish you and Diana great success and I know you will raise a lot of money and awareness for a great cause.

Thank you for keeping and eye (and an ear) on us over here at DianaKrallfans.com !

I'm in total agreement with Michelle's thoughts and comments. I hope the patients who will be able to go will truly have a memorable experience. I also hope the two tickets that are available on ebay continue to rise in price! I think the last time they did this they also did an auction for tickets and they went for around $5000.00, so I think they've topped that already.

Michelle, thank you for all your hard work and please let everyone know we support your family's effort 1,000 percent!

Best Wishes! :)
