...I vascillate between "Deed I Do" and "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" as my all-time favorite(s).
I prefer her upbeat stuff, but I do like "Why Should I Care" and
"Boulevard of Broken Dreams"...

So hard to pick... I've got you under my skin is one of my faves but I read that she thinks of her Mom & Dad on The folks who live on the hill so that always catches my attention and really tugs at my heart too. Hard to pick just one!

Y'know, if I had to pick from each individual album, I've found that track #5 is my favourite in at least three of DK's releases.

Stepping Out - "Body and Soul"
Only Trust Your Heart - "Folks Who Live on the Hill"
All For You - "Boulevard of Broken Dreams"

I wonder how much thought truly goes into the the track listing on albums...
"You never know when she's going to come in for an avocado." - Diana Krall, on The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn

Steve Greenlee: Ali Larter, the actress who plays Niki on the show (Heroes), could be your twin sister. She looks just like you.

Diana Krall: Poor thing.

Boulevard of broken dreams is my favorite Diana's song. Her interpretation is very special and different to the other existing ones. I was very impressed and moved since the fisrt time I listened it.

I just had to add.... I have about 225 songs on my computer that I play while I work and lately whenever "All Night Long" from the "Only Trust Your Heart" CD comes up I have to consider this as one of Diana's best..... I don't think I have ever heard her do the song live...... maybe this year ??....

Hmmm, so many beautiful songs from which to choose ...

Postby christratton on 20 Aug 2007, 00:56

Well, my first love among Diana songs is "I Remember You," which, incidentally, as if on cue, just came up in my iTunes as I am typing this. (Not THAT big a coincidence, as I have "Top 25 Most Played" list shuffling). I find this so gorgeous, so romantic, it sends chills up my spine so often when I hear it. It is one of the finest songs I have ever had the joy and pleasure to hear.

A less serious, but altogether lovely Diana song is "Popsicle Toes." I doubt there is a funner, laughinger song in her entire repertoire, and in my opinion, she just blows Michael Franks' version utterly out of the water. A delightful romp! "Love Letters" is gorgeous, as is "Dancing In the Dark", which is waaay sexy. Definitely music by which to snuggle and cuddle with someone especially nice. Hmmm. (scratching head) Um, I love "Little Girl Blue," which Diana graced us with in Connecticut last month. Stunningly beautiful. Since last month, when I first really took note of it, this song has worked its way into my Top 25 on the iPod.

Love "Frim Fram Sauce", another delightful, playful one like Popsicle Toes. And I adore "I'll String Along With You." Wow, is all I can say. "Exactly Like You" and "You Call It Madness" are two other lovely ones. I would also include "Let's Fall In Love," "Pick Yourself Up," "I Don't Know Enough About You," "Black Crow" and "I've Got You Under My Skin."

But if the angels ask me to recall the thrill of them all, then I shall tell them "I Remember You."

Fav DK

My favorite song that she's recorded for her own CD's? Too many really, but I'll go with "Let's Face The Music and Dance". I think it's a perfect recording. It's a complete re-imaging of the song, and it holds more meaning than previous versions, most notably the Fred Astaire "chipper" take in "Follow the Fleet". Plus, it's so romantic and sexy with the Brazilian influence. I love the quotes from "Like A Lover" in her piano solo, and I love anything to do with Jobim- love the quotes from "Corcovado" at the end of the song. Just outstanding.

But, the songs I love the most are her guest vocals on the Mark Whitfield album " Forever Love", "Some Other Time" and I think my all-time favorite DK vocal, "Early Autumn". Two of the most romantic songs I've ever heard. Magnificient.
"Our emotions rise to meet the force coming from the screen, and they go on rising... When this happens in popular art form... it is sometimes disparaged as fannishness. But there's something that goes deeper than connoisseurship or taste. It's a fusion of art and love." - Pauline Kael

Oh, 'Some Other Time' and 'Early Autumn' are absolute gems. I saw Mark Whitfield when he was touring with Chris Botti's band. Managed to get him to sign my concert ticket, since there were no more programs.

Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You" is my favorite. Almost any song from Live in Paris will qualify if heard while watching the DVD. She's just too perfect![/i][/b]

Hi Emmy!

This is my first time to see you post here. Welcome aboard! Have you gotten to see Diana this summer? Before this current tour? I got into her about six months ago and have become very fond of her stuff. She is just perfect when at her best, I agree.

Cheers,

-Chris S

Hey, Christratton,

Yes, we saw her at the Las Vegas Hilton and it was one of the best concerts I've ever attended. With our summer schedule full, we weren't able to see her on the east coast. Elvis Costello will be performing with the NC Symphony in a couple of weeks but I'm already commited to another engagement that night. Too much great music, too little time!

Although I don't post often, I really enjoy all the articles, reviews, and appreciate everyone who shares with the forum.

Thanks for your warm welcome.

And thanks for your kind words. I'm pleased to hear you got to see Diana in Las Vegas. The show she gave us here in CT was stellar, possibly the best I ever saw. The show in Boston was more pedestrian, to my heart and mind. I am so pleased to have found her and her music, a welcome addition to my life. :)

"East of the Sun (and west of the moon)" both swings AND grooves, whatever the language. A delightful song. :)
