How many Dk concerts have you been to?

Postby harpfingers on 27 Jul 2004, 21:54

Out of curiosity, how many DK concerts has everyone been to, and what is the farthest distance anyone has traveled to see Diana in Concert? :)

I've been to...

Postby SaxLix on 27 Jul 2004, 23:40

Well I've been to 3 DK concerts in the past 2 1/2 years. Before I moved to San Francisco at the end of may, I was living in the middle of NOWHERE in Lubbock, Texas...so I had to travel far and wide to see Diana.

First concert: Houston TX November 22, 2002-(traveld 9 hours from Lubbock to Houston).
Second Concert: Vancouver, BC May 7, 2004 (traveled from Lubbock, TX to Vancouver BC.)
Third Concert: Saratoga, CA Mountian Winery July 21,2004 (traveled about 2 hours from San Francisco by Train and car.)
But I did walk about 15 min to Davies Symph. Hall to meet her while she was in San Francisco last week. Wow...I still can't believe that happened!!

Well, if I'm not wrong, I have Diana 9 times in 4 years.

1 : in Orleans (France) - July, 3, 2000. In my opinion, the best DK concert I have attended. First, because it was the first time I was seeing the "Princess", secondly, because the crowd was absolutely the most receptive and the less uptight to her show (in comparison with the Olympia's public), thirdly, because at this time, she hadn't reached the popular status she has now.
2: at the FNAC, November, 27, 2001. A date I will never forget. Our first meeting.
3-6 : at the Olympia Theatre - November, 29/December, 2, 2001.
The best moments will be:
- our meeting backstage;
- my meeting with Skipjack;
7-8 : at the Palais des Congrès - September, 12, 13, 2002. It was OK, prices were becoming a bit expensive.
9 : Concert at the Maison de Radio France, April, 13, 2004.

I don't know when I'll see Diana again... well, yes, I know, once the prices will be a "bit" less expensive... :|

1. Washington DC, Warner Theater, 2000
2. Hollywood Bowl, CA, 2001
3. and 4. Washington DC, Kennedy Center, 2002
5. Masonic Auditorium, San Francisco, 2002
6. Merriweather Post, Columbia, MD 2004
7. Mountain Winery, Saratoga, CA 2004

So, I've traveled to California three times, which is quite a few miles accumulated. In each case though, the concert was in addition to other activities I had in the area.

I'm now back in gray and damp Virginia - already miss that California sunshine... Hi Kelly, Angelique, and Joyanna!

How Many Concerts

Postby dasher on 28 Jul 2004, 18:37

I have seen her 7 times.

1st - 1995 - Atlanta, IAJE (Int'l Assoc. of Jazz Educators) Convention
"Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby" was all over the radio.

2nd - 1996 - Atlanta, Roxy Theatre. Sponsored by GA State University.
This ticket was $7.00 Got lots of autographs and photos
from this show.

3rd and 4th - Either Dec '97 or '98 - Two nights at the Variety Playhouse.
Second show was sold out - had to get tickets at the front
door. Paid face value, thankfully. More photos and autos.

5th - 2000 - Atlanta, Fox Theatre. I believe this was the "Look of Love"
tour. Really good show. Got two autographs, but very
difficult process - she was getting popular.

6th - 2002 - Atlanta, Chastain Park. Playing on the bill with Tony Bennett.
Her set may have been about an hour. Then TB came out,
then Diana came out for about 4 songs w/him, then she left.
No autos, no photos. Chastain is like a prison backstage.

7th - 2004 - Atlanta, Chastain Park. Read my post in "Diana Comes to
Atlanta" section.

All really good shows.

How Many Times?

Postby DKJAZZDIVA on 30 Jul 2004, 04:56

Hi All, I have been to 3 concerts:

Twice in Ann Arbor Mich. at the first concert she said she been at the Bird of Paradise Club and only 8 people was there when she lst came to A Square which if DK reads this sad to report The Bird of Paradise which was a really funky jazz club closed this week. The second time which was my all time best was the When I Look in Your Eyes Concert at the Michigan Theatre in Ann Arbor, I had the pleasure of meeting her back stage and up close and personal. We met and spoke and she signed two concert signs that the theatre had on display which I proudly display in my office at home. She was absolutely breath taking beautiful her face was flawless and I never met anyone with the brightest green eyes. We spoke about the new CD which was TLOL she mentioned to me their was going to be more bossa nova beats etc. The third time was in Kitchner Canada it took my husband and I about 4 hours to drive there from Ann Arbor, Mich. My fourth Concert will be Aug. 20, 2004 in Toledo, which is about an hour from my house, and we will have a ball as usual. My kids are footing the hotel bill for the romantic weekend, as an anniversary gift so again can't wait to see her with this new GITOR concert all I want to hear is Black Crow hope she plays it and Stop the World and Departure Bay and of course if she would play some of the old favorites it will an exciting night. I will report back to you Krallians. Luv ANAE :alcohol:

1st was at the Boston Pops where I drooled on her from the balcony while Mrs TC elbowed me in the ribs.

Then BodyNSoul (from the old board) & I met and saw her at Harborlites. We met Ben Wolfe and chatted with him a bit.

Saw her at Foxwoods, and then again in Boston.

concerts

Postby keylargokid on 01 Aug 2004, 21:43

13 times in total
1st time in San Francisco on Halloween of 98 at the Masonic Auditorium
Farthest travelled was from Seattle to New York to see her play at Carnegie Hall
Most visited venue would be Chte St. Michelle Winery were I've seen her 4 times. The last two last weekend where for the Sunday show she brought out her husband for the encore. Yes we really did get to see Elvis Costello sing a song with Diana playing the piano. What a a way to end a perfect weekend.
for those odd moments we were perfect...

7 times - mostly in the Los Angeles / Orange County / San Diego / Thousand Oaks area...

but the most memorable would be the time I flew up to Oakland, CA (by myself) for 2 shows back to back at Yoshi's in June 2003 and then back to LA - all within 24 hrs....

I'm still waiting to catch DK in an inpromtu 'drop-by' at Steamers here in Fullerton, CA - Hey, it could happen !!! (she did stop by once - but I was not there !!!)...

1st Ravinia Festival Highland Park, IL 2000
2nd Chicago Theatre Chicago, IL 2001
And I met her at Borders during a Cd signing the day before the 2001 concert.

August 17th and 18th will be her first time here in Chicago after three long years. (Well, she did come here for that AOL broadcast but I didn't even know that she would be in Chicago.)

Woaw!!!

I'm really impresed with the number of time some DK fans have saw her. I just saw her once recently in LA, but I which I could see her at least once again. It was not enough for me to see her in LA, especially because I was very far from the stage.

What concerns me a little bit, after her huge success, is the fact that she's working too hard from several years ago, so she could decide to stop touring for a while, especially because she's married now. I think she deserves a good rest.

Regards

Armando

The Order ( I think) of these marvelous experiences which all have taken my breath away from my way up front and center seats so I could fix on the keys and pedals, eyes and lips, foot taps and off-bench leaps :

Portland Me.
Boston Symphany
Foxwoods Casino
Newport Tennis Hall of Fame where I got to talk to the fabulous one
Paris Olympia where I met my dear friend Remi
New Orleans
Boston Fleet
Montreal Bell Centre Jazz Fest. opening w/my "other" favorite piano player

So that makes 8 to date-farthest travelled- Maine to Paris
BEST!! ALL!!!!!! BUT Paris and Montreal top the list for me!

8.....and counting.
It would be more but she only plays the Toronto area once every 2-3 years.
The budget has limits, especially with tickets at $100+ now.
1, Toronto Oct. 99
2, Toronto Aug. 2000
3,4 Toronto/Kitchener Oct. 01
5, Buffalo Apr. 02
6. New Orleans Nov. 02
7,8 Toronto/ Hamilton May 04
Buffalo was the worst, sorry skirt, probably because she just started up the tour again after her mother's death. New Orleans was the best as the tour was just about over and all were lively and playful, and I met her after the concert as we stayed at the same hotel and the band was hanging out after the gig.

I didn't go this time around, but her previous Buffalo appearance wasn't the best either. I think the crowd has a lot to do with it too...and the locals just didn't receive her well. It seems to be the same case in many cities this tour also.

Oh and for the record. Once. Buffalo, NY in 2001.

A dozen Diana shows for me. All of them in California and all of them bring back great memories.
First show: Yoshi's in Oakland, CA / New Year's Eve 1999. My girlfriend and I flew up from Los Angeles on New Year's Eve, sat at a front row table and have been hooked ever since.
Latest shows: Greek Theatre, Los Angeles, last month.
Best venues we've seen Diana play: Yoshi's, Gainey Vineyard in Santa Ynez and Humphrey's in San Diego.
Can't wait for the next album and tour.
mapache61
P.S. My girlfriend works at the local jazz station here in Long Beach (KKJZ-FM) and word is they'll be broadcasting one of this month's Diana concerts (Chicago, I believe) in a few weeks. They will also be qualifying listeners to win a trip to see Diana in Paris. Stay tuned...

At the risk of being accused of bragging again (Eric), I had to resurrect this old thread to add this:

While looking thru my 'stuff' after my move up to the Pacific Northwest, I came across a ticket stub for the UCLA event that I attended in June of this year. It was the first time I ever met Diana ( I love being able to say that; 'the first time' !! ).

Anyway, with that in the count, I have now been to 10 DK concerts.

As EiLB told me; if you can't brag here, where can you ??!!.......

In looking back over this list, however, I see I am still not up to mapache61, keylargokid, and others.....

maybe next year we will be able to add the 'Kralloholics Unite - 2006' to the mix !!!
