Chicago August 17th Show

Postby Samantha on 18 Aug 2004, 08:15

First off I would like to thank Diana and the other band members for such a wonderful show.

Two hours before the concert it was pouring rain, which somehow didn't matter to me because I was going to see DK for the first time in three years.

Diana performed all the songs for GitOR plus Body and Soul, All or Nothing At All, Ernestine Anderson - I'm Walkin', and two or three other songs I cannot remember off hand.

My only problem with the show would be the lack of audience participation. It felt like Diana and the guys were playing for themselves. When someone would finish a solo the audience didn't gave them any credit. Come on people, there are great musicians on the stage. Diana only spoke to the audience a handful of times, which was only to give the band a break or to introduce a song. This was the worse audience ever. People kept getting up during great moments of music to get alcohol.

Anthony Wilson was on fire. I'm glad that he is playing with DK otherwise I probably would not have gotten a chance to experience his talent. Can't to see him again at the jazz fest.

Now wait to you hear this. The awesome person name Diana Krall did Boulevard of Broken Dreams for the first encore. I shouted out, "please play Boulevard of Broken Dreams" when she came out for the encore songs. You can imagine how excited I was when she started playing the introduction to BoBD. OMG!!! :thud: Diana made made my day. Never before have I heard her perform that song. Thank you!!!! Thank you, Diana!!!!

The second encore song was Frim Fram Sauce.

I will have another review for the 18th show.

Thanks for your review Samantha! And how lucky you are that Diana played BOBD, I'm jealous! ;)
I'm sorry to hear that the audience was bad. But I'm not surprised, because I also lived that (at the Olympia, at the Palais des Congrès and lately at the Maison de Radio France... All in Paris).
Maybe I should advice Diana to avoid Paris and his uptight, prim and proper guys if she wants a good french audience.

BOBD

Thanks for your review. Wow, what a treat to get to hear her sing BOBD. And she was o.k. with you throwing out the suggestion obviously. Frim Fram Sauce would have been fun to hear live. Isn't she just phenomenol?

Samantha:

Samantha: Thanks for the great first-person audience report. It's interesting that Diana is playing "Frim Fram Sauce" and "BOBD" and "You Call It Madness" (the news clip mentioned).

Just one more day for Anae for the Toledo concert and two more days for me in Detroit!

I would love to hear "Let's Face the Music and Dance" and "FFS" and "BOBD"...among others, of course. I'd love to get an autograph, too, but I doubt it with the backstage set-up at the Fox Theatre.

By the way, Samantha, just curious...are you getting an "early autumn" (song name pun intended) in the Chicago area? Here in the Detroit area, it's been chilly and cloudy and some of the trees have started turning red. It's a cool August by Michigan standards.

The highlight from Wednesday show was during Diana performing "P.S. I Love You". The spotlight was just the right way that it cast Diana's shadow on the background where you could see her singing and playing the piano. Something out of a painting. It was so beautiful. That image will live with me forever.

After the show I waited outside to catch a glance of Diana. However it was raining pretty hard, and there was a big truck in the way. When DK was coming out I told her I love her and her music. She looked over and said thanks before rushing to her car. One of the security guards looked like the same guy that was with Harry Connick Jr. in December.

Coda:

Yes, we are having an "early autumn" here in Chicago.
