Wow, this is a powerful group! If anyone hasn't listened to these two other ladies they should; both have very unique styles/voices. I think I would very much enjoy this lineup for a concert capping it off with Diana of course!

I think a trip down to OZ might be in order...

I would love to see Diana and Madeleine together.

Kind of sad that this starts on the 18th - means there's limited opportunity for Diana to get involved in the Olympics...
If she's playing in NZ on the 18th, presumably she'll have to leave a few days earlier to allow for travel, time difference, etc. Olympics start on the 12th... so unless she does a show sometime around 12-15, I'm guessing no DK at Vancouver/ Whistler 2010 :(

In case you're not on Verve's email list, Melody Gardot is supposed to be on CBS Sunday Morning this week. http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/sunday/main3445.shtml

Hope I can watch this week. For some reason, we had a power outage last Sunday morning.

Melody Gardot has quite a compelling story. You can watch the CBS Sunday Morning feature here:

With two others on the bill, as well as an opener, I wonder how long Diana's performance will be?

Interchange I had via Twitter with Simon Sweetman in New Zealand

BlogOnTheTracks: interviewing Diana Krall today and Songs...

[Your's truly] @BlogOnTheTracks The Diana Krall interview - is she in NZ already? Or did you do it via the phone? Fans want to know :-)

@[Your's truly] it's coming up this morning - via phone - rescheduled from last Friday...I'll let you know how it goes...

[Your's truly] @BlogOnTheTracks Thanks! Looking forward to hearing about the interview. You probably know, but Diana really likes wine!

@[Your's truly] yeah - we'll touch on that ;)

Good. If she's not in NZ that means there's still a slight chance she might be involved in some way in the Olympics. I've just read that both Michael Buble and Jann Arden are running with the torch on Friday. Maybe, just maybe, we'll get to see a bit of DK with the flame, too.

scielle - I was hoping that he was doing a phone interview, for the reason you mention. Guess there is still a glimmer of hope. Here's the followup from Simon.

*****

@[Your's truly] she was great; chatted a lot about the kids and being busy - but really good to chat to and really funny...

@[Your's truly] will send you the link when it's written up...

Well, I would't hold my breath.
Opening ceremony is shrouded in secrecy, but some reports emerged that Sarah McLachlan sang at last night's rehearsal, and there was some Joni Mitchell music involved, so perhaps JM will be there as well. At least it's not Celine. I respect the woman - really, I do - but I don't want her to be my country's sole musical representation to the world!

I would think Sarah would be singing the song we've seen in promos (at least they showed it during the US Figure Skating Championship). Also I like having Joni Mitchell involved. Have heard that Michael Buble and Jann Arden are a couple of the torch bearers; I'm hoping the opening show has a heavy flavor or British Columbia artist ( and there are quite a few!); we can only hope our Diana will be there!

Other reports say that Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah is part of the show, and that Nikki Yanofsky sings the anthem. So, whether DK makes it or not, this is already sounding like a Who's Who of my favourite musicians!

Sorry, this is degenerating into an Olympic thread. Decidedly off topic.

I’m pretty sure no one minds if we stray a bit, scielle :D

Anyway, here's some continuing Twitter dialog with Simon in New Zealand.
His blog is at: http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/bl ... the-tracks
He also has a fan page on Facebook at: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Blog-On-T ... 595?ref=ts

@BlogOnTheTracks Thanks for the feedback! She is a real class act. I've had the good fortune to meet her a couple of times.

BlogOnTheTracks: cool - saw her play about 5 years ago and will catch her again in a coupla weeks..

@BlogOnTheTracks I'm sure you'll have a great time at DK's concert! Wonder how much she'll play since 2 others are on the bill?

BlogOnTheTracks: it's an early starty - I expect her to play an 80-90 min set still...

@BlogOnTheTracks Great news about the start time! DK with superb guests. Sure wish I could get there. Lived in your part of globe once.

BlogOnTheTracks: yeah - looking forward to seeing Peyroux live, definitely. Seen DK before and she's great.

@BlogOnTheTracks Melody G has quite a story, in case you're not already familiar with it. CBS recently ran this piece: http://bit.ly/czDRIO

BlogOnTheTracks: I interviewed her mid last year...yeah - she's got a story alright. I also chatted to Peyroux recently too...

Someone in Vancouver reported on Twitter that she was dining next to Diana and Elvis at a restaurant called Quattro, on Wednesday evening/Thurs morning. http://www.quattrorestaurants.com/gindex.html

LimeKwok: I'm dining beside diana krall and elvis costello at quattro!! (Cool)

So, assuming the report is accurate, there remains a slight possibility that Diana could show up in some capacity at the Opening Ceremony...

The performances Down Under were so well received that Universal Music and the three artists decided to team up to capture the March 3 concert at Brisbane Entertainment Centre for a forthcoming DVD.
