Beach Boys Reunion Begins at Grammys, With Foster the People & Maroon 5

The surviving members of The Beach Boys will perform together for the first time in more than 20 years at Sunday's Grammy Awards (Feb. 12) in a joint appearance with pop-drenched nominees Foster The People and Maroon 5, it was announced on Tuesday.

Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston, and original member David Marks announced in December that they were reuniting for a new album and ambitious tour, with will kick off April 27 at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Special appearances before that were promised; the Grammys fits the bill.

"I miss the boys and it will be a thrill for me to make a new record and be on stage with them again," said Wilson, who started the band in 1961 with his brothers Dennis and Carl, cousin Love and Jardine, who was briefly replaced by Marks.

Also announced on Wednesday were performances by current nominees The Civil Wars, Diana Krall, Maceo Parker, and Joe Walsh.

Grammy performers continue to be announced ahead of the awards' live show on Sunday. On Tuesday it was revealed that The Foo Fighters, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, David Guetta and Deadmau5 will join forces to participate in a "special performance highlighting dance/electronica music" at the awards.

Also on Tuesday, Tony Bennett's duet with Carrie Underwood and an Etta James tribute led by Bonnie Raitt and Alicia Keys were both announced.

The Grammys announced last week that Adele will make her first performance after undergoing vocal-cord surgery, in addition to the announcement that Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will take the stage. Previously announced Grammy performers include: Katy Perry, Jason Aldean, Kelly Clarkson, Glen Campbell, The Band Perry, Blake Shelton, Coldplay, Rihanna, Foo Fighters (though not known in what capacity until now), Bruno Mars, Paul McCartney, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift.

Diana Krall Kicks Off Grammy® Week With A String Of Special Performances

GRAMMY® Award-winning jazz singer/pianist Diana Krall makes a stop in Los Angeles to participate in a number of special events.

First, Diana Krall joins Paul McCartney who will commemorate the release of his new album Kisses On The Bottom with a once in a lifetime streaming performance taking place live at 7:00 p.m. PST Thursday, February 9, from the famed Capitol Studios where much of the new album was created. Diana Krall, Joe Walsh (guitar), John Clayton (bass), Karriem Riggins (drums), John Pizzarelli (guitar) , Michael Mainieri (vibraphone), Anthony Wilson (guitar) and Alan Broadbent (conductor/arranger) will back Paul McCartney for the Capitol live stream event. The album was produced by Tommy LiPuma and features Diana Krall and the musicians above, minus Joe Walsh.

On February 10, Diana Krall performs three songs at one of the most prestigious events held during Grammy® week, the MusiCares® Person of the Year tribute which will celebrate Paul McCartney’s artistic achievements and philanthropic work.

As the finale for Grammy® week, Diana Krall has been invited to perform at the 54th Annual GRAMMY® Awards which will take place live on Sunday, Feb. 12 at Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on the CBS Television Network from 8–11:30 p.m. ET/PT.

The celebrated musician, Krall, has not stopped since the release of her 2009 Grammy-winning, platinum album Quiet Nights. She has been travelling the globe, touring in Canada, Europe, UK, USA, Russia, Australia, South America and the Middle East, performing on almost every continent.

In addition to her touring and appearance schedule, the acclaimed musician took a short break to produce her first record for another artist, Barbra Streisand's Love Is The Answer, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart upon its release.

Never slowing down, Diana Krall contributed a track “Simple Twist of Fate” for the Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International released last month.

And Diana Krall has much more already planned for 2012, more details to be announced soon.

Seems like Diana will also perform during the pre-Grammy diner: http://yfrog.com/ntt0hqsj

Grammy Insider Glam: Clive, McCartney and The Big Show

Grammy weekend has already begun. For this reporter, it meant hanging out in the ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel yesterday with record industry legend Clive Davis. While tables were being rolled into place for his famous annual pre-Grammy dinner and show set for Saturday night, another legend, Ray Davies of the Kinks, rehearsed on stage with his band. The Kinks were rescued by Davis in the late 1970s when he ran Arista Records, and had a successful second chapter to their star studded career with hits like “Come Dancing” and “Superman.” On Saturday night, in front of 800 A listers, Davies will be one of the featured stars Davis introduces. There’s a rumor that for one song–”Days”– he’ll be joined on stage by Elvis Costello. Jackson Browne will join him for another. Davis, young as springtime, is smiling from ear to ear. He’s also got Tony Bennett and Diana Krall doing something, and R&B singers Brandy and Monica will sing their new hit duet. Otherwise, it’s a secret. Whitney Houston is coming, but just to be in the audience. She sang last year.

Davis has to ratchet it up. Tonight–Friday–the Grammys salute Paul McCartney as their MusiCares Person of the Year. (Davis’s dinner, also Grammy sponsored, salutes Virgin Records’ Richard Branson.) McCartney has his own deluge of stars performing his songs, all produced by another legend Tommy LiPuma. James Taylor, Coldplay, Norah Jones, and the Foo Fighters are among those on the list. As Regis Philbin might say, “It’s out of control!” It;’s who can top this? All over town, people are offering kidneys and middle children for tickets to these events. And that doesn’t even take in the actual Grammy Awards on Sunday night, with Bruce Springsteen and a Beach Boys reunion.

Last night, Thursday, the Grammys sponsored one of their great history of music nights with jazz, folk, and blues musicians at the Saban Theater. I still cannot get over the sax vs. trombone duel I heard between Dave Koz and New Orleans’ magnificent Trombone Shorty doing “On the Sunny Side of the Street.” It was bone chilling and exhilirating. Wow. Across town, Capitol Records was still getting over their own big Paul McCartney day. He got his star on the Walk of Fame, then performed a live hourlong show on iTunes in Capitol Studios for fns who’d won a contest, wife Nancy Shevell, and a few buddies like Eric Idle and Neil Young. Ring Starr was a no show, claiming a bronchial ailment. He’s set to present on Sunday’s Grammy show.

Keep checking for updates. This is only the beginning. Or “Something Better Beginning” as he Kinks once sang and –yes–as Ray Davies sang to me from the Hilton stage last night. I have witnesses, I swear.

Diana performed "If I Had You" on the pre-Grammy party: http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2012/02/ ... _news_blog

At Pre-Grammy Party, Clive Davis Vows To Carry On After Whitney Houston’s Death.

Speaking before hundreds of entertainment executives, musicians and other VIPs gathered at the Beverly Hilton hotel just hours after the death of Whitney Houston, Clive Davis vowed that carrying on with his annual pre-Grammy bash was the most fitting tribute he could offer.

“She graced this stage with her regal presence so many times,” Davis said. “Whitney would have wanted the music to go on and her family asked us to carry on.”

Houston was Davis’s protégée. But she also arrived at a moment when his career needed a boost, helping restore his stature by delivering the biggest commercial successes when he needed them the most.

“I am personally devastated,” a visibly emotional Davis said.

The first two performers, Tony Bennett and Diana Krall, performed poignant standards: “How Do You Keep the Music Playing?” and “If I Had You.” Bennett told the crowd Houston was “the greatest singer I ever heard in my life.”

Diddy, Clive Davis Pay Tribute to Whitney Houston at Pre-Grammy Gala

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- You could hear a pin drop as Clive Davis took the stage at his and the Recording Academy's annual pre-Grammy gala Saturday night with a moment of silence in honor of Whitney Houston.

"Whitney was a beautiful person and a talent beyond compare. She graced this stage with her regal presence and gave so many memorable performances here over the years. Simply put, Whitney would have wanted the music to go on and her family asked that we carrry on.

After the moment of silence Davis declared, "Let the music begin!" Then Tony Bennett took the stage and delivered a powerful reading of "How Do You Keep the Music Playing" and dedicated it to Houston. "I told Clive you finally got the greatest voice I ever heard," Bennett reflected. Next up was Diana Krall accompanying herself on the piano on "If I Had You."

Yup, during Macca's tune I counted two all-too-brief pans over to Diana.

Later, when the Grammy producer guy was on stage talking about MusiCares, there was a nice, lengthy shot of DK & EC in the audience.

That's all I saw.
