Jazzvocaliste Diana Krall brengt tijdens haar plusconcert op North Sea Jazz vooral werk uit het interbellum ten gehore in hele degelijke doch ietwat stugge uitvoeringen. Het publiek blijkt duidelijk nog niet zo bekend te zijn met de liedjes die ze op haar vorig verschenen jazzplaat Glad Rag Doll coverde.

Om de zoveel liedjes verlaten grote groepen mensen de zaal, wat gezien de inspanningen van Krall en haar band toch eigenlijk wel heel erg zonde is. Nu zijn liedjes van Fats Waller of afgestofte jazzdeuntjes als Let It Rain en Just Like A Butterfly That’s Caught In The Rain natuurlijk erg obscuur.

Het tweetal aan elkaar gesmede Neil Young-nummers ligt meer in het verlengde van Kralls oude werk en krijgen de nodige respons. Voor liefhebbers van sobere traditionele jazz van tussen de twee wereldoorlogen is dit smaakvolle optreden daarentegen puur genieten.
