coolguy,
To get DK tickets, did you have to buy tickets to a minimum of three Greek Theatre summer season concerts?
That's what it looks like to me, but I've not gone through the Greek's registration/log-in rigmarole.

I'm wondering if a second DK @ The Greek show will be added for Friday 9/20.
I think there's a good possibility.
Last time at this venue (TGITOR tour) she played two shows.

Hey Mapache - no, I just bought the one ticket for her show. IF you want to subscribe to a series (min of 3 shows) to get all the "benefits" then go with a 3 show package, but you can buy just her show if you want. I had to create a user acct for the Greek/Gibson theaters to order the ticket, but that was no sweat. Incidentally, yesterday I got a call from NBC Universal regarding my ticket purchase - apparently my full credit card number didn't go through on the order, only the last 4 digits....something wrong on their end, because I was told it happened to several other orders as well, so they took care of it over the phone. So NBCUNI is the clearinghouse operation for tickets for the Greek & Gibson, it seems.

Yes, summer 2004 was her last 2-night performance there....my sister and I went, and were sitting up at the top/back of the theatre. The first night, there was some interference going on in the small building there at the top, like someone was watching TV or something, which interfered with her concert for everyone sitting in that area! We reported it to a guard, and the 2nd night there wasn't any problem. She may add a 2nd show for Friday....we'll have to wait and see :)

No kidding. Well, guess I'll try it. Although at this point I doubt there are primo seats left. Maybe DK.com will do a presale before a general ticketmaster on-sale?

I went to both of those 04 shows as well. Sat in nosebleed seats the first night (I don't remember TV interference), and 5th or 6th row behind the pit the second night. Good times.

Thanks for the info.

You're right, cool guy. I tried and the system will allow me to buy tix for DK only. However, no row/seat numbers are shown. Does the system give you row/seat location after you've completed the payment process? Or is your seat location a mystery until the tix arrive in your hand?

I'm not willing to pop $135 each (ouch) on a mystery ticket.

I have to imagine there will be DK.com and Ticketmaster pre/on-sales coming soon. The website says this Greek/Gibson ticketing offer expires 3/23.

Hey Mapache, I have no idea about the seat/row I've got as I don't have the ticket yet....don't know when it will be mailed out. I took a chance w/$135...we'll see what I get. Did you go ahead and order your ticket, or are you holding off until the general public sale? (I have no idea when that starts).

Yeah, I'm just holding off for now. I'd also like to see what other venues she'll play on this West Coast swing. I like the Greek, but something a little smaller would be nice. And I'm always up for a DK road trip.

Another excellent show last night. And a bit longer than the Friday gig in San Diego. I scribbled down the setlist.

Busy today. I'll post the set and some mini reviews tonight or Monday.

Yes, last night's show at the Greek was excellent! However, it was a traffic nightmare to get in there from out here in Malibu...took 2 hours. I really prefer it when she plays at Hollywood Bowl....only takes an hour to get there for me, usually. It's a good thing the band didn't walk onto the stage until 8:15 instead of 8pm, as I didn't get into my seat until 8:10. Great performance, though!!!! :D

Thanks narrowdaylight. Looks like I didn't need to keep track of the setlist after all. Now I wish I'd done it down in San Diego instead.

Sorry to hear about the traffic, coolguy. For once I had good luck driving up from the Long Beach area. Almost no traffic. We drove there and were parked in about 1 hour.

Later today I'll try to write post some thoughts on this show.

Unlike Friday night in San Diego (see my Humphrey's review if you care), my seats for Saturday night were stellar: Section A, Row A, Seats 1 & 3, directly on the inside aisle. The only superior seats were in front of us in the Orchestra Pit, which looked to comprise about 5 rows. Here, at far House Stage Left, we had an outstanding view of Diana, her fingers flying across the keyboards (both the grand and the electric), her facial expressions, the blonde hair whipping about....the whole picture-perfect she-bang, folks. How awesome was the view? The LA Times and Greek Theatre photographers were sitting directly in front of us. So was one of DK's stage managers. I spoke with her for a quick second. We agreed on how good the San Diego show had been, then I asked where tonight's DK mosh-pit area would be (naturally, I was a bit sauced). She laughed.

Unlike San Diego with its small stage, on this night we got the full stage set, complete with the big crescent moon prop. The backdrop videos played as they did the night before, but at this close range I barely noticed them. This is a good thing. I realize the GRD tour is a whole multimedia extravaganza, and I'm cool with the concept, but for me it's all about watching DK and the band do their thing. And baby, did they ever do it. Watch the youtube videos narrowdaylight posted in this thread.

Highlights for me were "Temptation," a breathy "Let's Face The Music And Dance" (see youtube video), "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself a Letter" and a wonderful "Boulevard of Broken Dreams."

Did I forget Neil Young? Not by a long shot. Don't know about the rest of the crowd, but I nearly jumped out of my skin when I heard "A Man Needs A Maid." Late in the tune, the snippet of "Heart of Gold" was simply icing on the Canadian Cake.

Bob? Oh yes. We got a sublime yet short rendition of Dylan's "Wallflower." And this Bobcat was quite satisfied. Note: I betcha Diana just got a copy of the recently released Dylan Bootleg Series Box Set: Another Self Portrait. Otherwise, I believe that tune is only on the very first Dylan Bootleg CDs from years ago.

The Band? I haven't downloaded/listened to the full show, but if you hear a drunk in the crowd shouting out Band song requests ("The Weight!" and "Rag Mama Rag!"), yep, that's mapache61. Diana laughed and said "The request window is closed."

This show was a bit more polished than the San Diego gig. Usually, I like it more loose and improvisational. But I can't deny that musically the Greek Theatre was a notch above. As for the DK jokes, she wasn't slinging 'em off the cuff as she did down south. Maybe she was nervous? At one point she mentioned that the great Don Rickles was in the audience. I'd be nervous, too.

Dig it, DK fans. Don't miss this tour. And if at all possible, buy a seat where you can see her play the piano. She's tearing it up, babies.

Peace.
