DK in Argentina Feb.2005

Hello, all of you DKaholics around the globe!javascript:emoticon(':D')
Very Happy I'm all the way down from Argentina and a proud new member to this awesome site! I've been following Krall's career since her very beginings, when I got hold of a few of her 1st cds "All for you" and "Steppin' out". ...and I remember saying to myself: WOOOOW ! WHO THE HELL IS THIS LADY WITH THAT VOICE ! DAMN!
The reason why I write now is that I have recently had the honour to see her play live at Buenos Aires' Luna Park theater. Her show was COMPELLING stuff, as I expected of such a proffesional woman.
I have one objection, though. Eventhough the vast and devoted audience was constantly awed by her -and her band's- craftsmanship, she seemed to lack human warmth towards these people-(me included),javascript:emoticon('')
Cry who probably did their best to aford the (very) high fees for those tickets. I've seen how jazz musicians behave in general, and I'm not judging Diana as a "diva" or anything like it. My opinion is that if jazz is a music genre that hopefully wants to trascend its select, stiff-upper lip audience to reach a wider spectre of listeners, musicians should open up a bit more to the public, to whom ( let's face it ) they should be the most thankful.
However I'll be forever grateful for the joy her music brings to my ears everyday and I hope that she'll keep on playing those heavenly tunes for years to come !
Thanks for giving people a chance to post their opinions here ! Keep it up! :D

Welcome Aboard Victoria,

I don't view Diana as lacking in human warmth. I think she is just a very private person, a bit shy in certain situations. And while performing, she feels more in her element when she is playing music, rather than talking about it. Not too mention, she must get very tired, constantly travelling and performing, and keeping up with different time zones.

Glad to have a new DK fan around!

Hi Victoria, nice to have you here!
And you're not the first to point that out, but you know what, I could care less. It's about the music, right?
I think it's only natural, once one achieves a certain level of notariety, to build a protective wall around yourself, especially if you're a private person, not comfortable with yakking about yourself to a full hockey stadium. It's one thing to be personable in a small club, and quite another to be naturally chatty at a thousand-seater venue.
I'd rather have the musicans I go to see live be themselves, and not put on false airs of the I'm-your-best-friend ilk. I think Diana's stage persona is quite endearing, actually. She's real, which is refreshing in the face of all the forced showgirls we've got around these days.

Apology

Postby Victoria on 09 Feb 2005, 03:52

Ok, guys. I must take back part of the unfair comment I made the other day. You know, I've been dk's fan for sooooo many years ,(almost a decade) and I'm only 23 now, AND from Argentina, so go figure (it was and has always been very difficult trying to find dk fans here when you're just a teenager) . Last Thursday was the 1st time that I EVER saw her on a live show, so I was so full of expectations about the whole thing that I forgot all about her very shy nature. I totally understand her, because I'm painfully shy myself. I really don't know how would I react if I were in her shoes. I mean , I'd probaly pee myself or run away like a maniac.
I have absolutely no objections about the supreme degree of artistry that she displayed that evening. Looking back now, I think that she gave the best of herself , (as usual) ; and the whole of the band' s performance was just awesome.,It fulfilled my every expectation and It is certainly something I'll treasure in my heart for ever.
So, sorry again.
Take care!
Vicky
