Jamie Cullum- Verve's male counterpart to DK?

Postby The Fox on 29 Jun 2004, 18:39

I know someone posted already but that was spam and this is not.
Verve new artist Jamie Cullum is just great. I listened to a couple of the tracks from his new cd Twentysomething this weekend. This young
kid -he is only 24 -can really belt it out in song and piano. Harry Connick should be worried. Just have a listen to Singing in the Rain and Devil may
Care. And he is with Verve so in a sense he is part of DK's recording family. I have never been so excited for a new artist as I have been for Jamie.
It is the same feeling I had when I discovered Diana three years ago. Love at first listen.
Give him a listen. PS he taught himself to sing and play piano.
Never had any formal training! Thank God there is so much great talent out there.

Actually I did mentioned him in another topic (about Joss Stone I think).

I totally agree with you. He has a quite unique voice... And the fact that he taught himself only enhances his exquisiteness.

Let's just hope we'll be hearing more from him in the next few years...

I don't really care for his voice yet. I hope it grows on my because I love unique voices. Just give me time, I am sure it will.

Got to see Jamie Monday at the radio station I listen to. They had a small (like 15 people) concert at the station.

Here's a Link:

You can see the top of my head in one of the pics (the whole room shot)

There's also part of the interview and his version of Radiohead's High N Dry here:

Ohno, not the hobbit boi! Don't care for him all that much. I saw a concert he did on Canadian TV, the best thing about it was when he was doing his ADD/Hyperactivity thing where he runs & jumps around like mad, and he fell off the stage. I'm not normally a sadistic person, but that cracked me up.

My favourite quote from him (paraphrasing): "you don't come to jazz, jazz comes to you." That's, like, soooo deep, man.
