Possibly Out of Commission

Postby jazzygal karla on 29 Jan 2007, 09:41

I know I've been more of a lurker than a poster around these parts for quite some time now (I know I used to be pretty vocal in times and DK fansites past) but I felt I should give notice that I might be more absent in the near future.

I got some results of some routine head, neck and spine MRIs this past week. Since I was born with a condition known as Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF-1), which causes tumors to grow spontaneously anywhere in the body, it's something that needs to be checked out on a regular basis.

The MRIs revealed a benign tumor pressing against my spinal cord in my upper-spine/neck area. Surgical removal is the recommended course of action, and I should be meeting with a neurosurgeon soon to discuss the particulars.

I'll try to leave updates as things progress.

If you're the praying type, I ask for your prayers, as one can never have too many people petitioning Heaven for help. Thanks in advance.

Wow! Thank you so much, everyone!

I don't have a surgery date just yet. The neurosurgeon wants to send me for one more CT. He needs to see if there's been any bone erosion, as well as location of arteries and so on. Depending on how stable the spine is once the tumor has been removed, I may yet require surgical fusion at the C1 or C2 level (uppermost vertebrae in the spine). That would mean I'd lose some mobility in my side-to-side movement. I was fully expecting to be told I'd need surgery to remove the tumor, but the spinal fusion prospect caught me a bit off-guard. I'm praying I won't need it.

All your positive thoughts and prayers are especially welcome my dear Krallsters, and are indeed a comfort. Again, my thanks!

Went for the CT scan yesterday. Neurosurgeon's office called today. Going in for the consultation towards the end of the month. Guess he's got the results and will be reviewing them ASAP. Then he gets to tell me what the game plan is. So things are moving along quite nicely...

Will know more once I've had the consult.

Thanks again to everyone for your continued prayers! :D
