Raising Sand, and Alison Krauss in general

Wow. I have fallen in love with Allison Krauss as a result of her new album with Robert Plant. I am very fond of many of the songs on Raising Sand, and I went and bought the iTunes essentials collection of her songs. What a beautiful, sweet voice she has! And she and Robert Plant have created some extraordinary music together, under the direction of T-Bone Burnett. Very nice.

Anyone else give this album a listen or otherwise enjoy Ms. Krauss's work?

Excellent album. Besides the engrossing vocals just dig that groovy guitar work from T Bone!

Glad you're enjoying it, too, John. I really like "Rich Woman' - dig that tasty, Zeppelin-esque guitar riff (echoes of "Whole Lotta Love," which is whimsical, I reckon, in this musical context). Am fond of most every song on the album, with perhaps the exception of two or three which are a little too rocky, Robert Plantish for my taste, in this milieu, at least. The Allison Kraussy, soft, bluegrassy stuff is all gorgeous. Am playing my new "Angelic Allison" playlist on my iPod stereo player at this moment, in fact: "Please Read the Letter," gorgeous.

I just read that Ms. Krauss and Mr. Plant are planning a "Raising Sand" tour for next year. I know one concert I'll be going to next year, if I have my way about things!

I found out that Alison's first name has only one "L," so I edited my thread-header post to reflect that.

Also, I am curious that so few have responded to this thread, even though it appears that several have read it. I hope John and I are not the only ones here who've had a chance to enjoy Ms. Krauss's work. Her style and musical genre are quite different from Diana's to be sure, but I enjoy her work an awful lot, too. In my pantheon, I feel she will settle in there for me perhaps not as top of the tops (I think Diana will end up closer to that for me), but her music is, to my ears, extraordinarily lovely. My two cents' worth - would to hear that of others.

One of the reasons I keep coming to this site is that there's a group of bright, interesting music lovers here with whom to share thoughts and from whom to learn about interesting artists who are new to me. (Always nice to expand the musical horizons when one can). Anyhow, when one yells across a canyon, it is fun to hear the echo, but even funner to hear someone yell back in greeting.
