Timmy's in the Well

Postby Bud on 20 May 2008, 04:00

OK, this will only be meaningful to the few boomers (and beyond?) that hang around here. Timmy is the Timmy of Lassie fame.

Jon Provost, who played Timmy and wrote this autobiography, did an entertaining hour long interview with John Rothmann on KGO San Francisco on Saturday morning. Its nice to hear that things turned out so well for him, especially given the experience of other child stars of the era. If you're interested in it, this link will only be good until this coming Saturday morning, when it will be overwritten.

Can you name who preceded June Lockhart on the series? I sure couldn't, but she's a well-known actress.

Definitely brought back some memories!

I will confess: I watched Lassie as a child. I had seen where the book was coming out and will try and read a copy of it. This brings back many memories of many other shows from that era! Any one remember 'Sky King' or 'Rin Tin Tin'? My age is showing but that's just fine with me!

Sky King was one of my favorites! When I was little I remember setting up a chair I had and pretended I was flying. I thought Penny would've been a cool big sister, too :)

Thanks Bud! Great site, enjoyed it! There were really some great shows during the late 50's early 60's weren't there! :D

There were a lot of memorable shows. I realize now that I was watching Sky King reruns, but not by much. I caught the latter part of Lassie on its first run, and I definitely remember when Lassie transitioned to Cory the forest ranger...

I know, I think I must have watched the early 60's reruns. I also was a great fan of Fury, and my hero, Roy Rogers; and ..... I admit to watching The Real McCoys and Rin Tin Tin; ok I'm done now! Nostalgia is great!

Roy Rogers was one of my heroes too, maybe the first I remember having. I was into the cowboy bit in my younger days.

Funny you should bring up The Real McCoys, because something came up at work that reminded me of the show during the past week. I might have more to add to this story, but I can't get the information I need until Tuesday. :?

Hey Sue --

After the KGO appearance, I signed the guestbook on Jon Provost's site, http://www.jonprovost.com/

He's been busy with his book, but I just received an email from him. Because of a few of the things he included, its clear he responded personally. It wasn't automated or anything.

Quite the class act! Bud

Just came across the news that Gloria Winters, who played Penny in Sky King, passed away in August 2010:
