new board

Postby Coda on 19 May 2004, 15:36

Hi, Remi:

What's up with the new board?
Coda

Postby Rémi on 19 May 2004, 16:08

What do you mean Coda?

If you wonder if this forum will be better than Ezboard, well, I personally think any board is better than Ezboard.

I took phpBB2 because:
- it works well (lots of forums are running with phpBB2 and it seems that there's no "BIG" problems (regarding the posts counts for example)
- it has a more convivial look (well, not now, I haven't changed the design yet! ;) ) and there's more features on phpBB2 than on Ezboard;
- because it's written in php so it's easier to use for everyone (according to what I have heard)
- and especially because it was free! ;)

The Ezboard forum will stay alive anyway in case of, one day, there's some trouble with this MB, but for now, the "home" is here.

PS:
You never log in, do you? ;)

If so, you should be able to log in with your nickname and password you have created.

If you still have problems, contact me on MSN.

Absolutely. And it's not the only thing. When you are logged, you can have additional features (avatar image, private message, email to others, etc.)

That's why I encourage everyone to register and log each time you visit the forum. More, it's easier than on Ezboard.

Starting

Postby Eric in Long Beach on 19 May 2004, 20:19

It's been so long since I've been a Newbie. It will take me a long time to reacquire my post status (which previously took me a long time before, too) :(

I am change-averse. :x I've had to modify my signature because php won't accept one that's more than 250 characters.

I hope you can move over the old threads, Rémi. Image

Debug Error

Postby CarlG on 19 May 2004, 20:19

Of course I keep getting Debug Errors anytime I try to do something, so then I have to go back and see if my post came through.

Also having trouble setting up the Avatar thing for my pic. I have an animated gif residing on a server, shouldn't I just be able to copy the URL?

Debug Errors

Postby Eric in Long Beach on 19 May 2004, 20:23

I'm getting debug error messages about 50% of the time.

Are you sure this is really necessary, Rémi?

Debug Errors

Postby Eric in Long Beach on 19 May 2004, 20:41

I'll send you the next one I get. After the message says "Debug Error", it's followed by a line number and a long string of characters. It appears that the requested action (e.g. submit reply, or modify profile) occurs anyway despite the error message.

OK, I see... I have the same problem.

Code: Select all
Failed sending email :: PHP ::
DEBUG MODE
Line : 234
File : /var/www/62/j/a/z/jazzprincess.net/www/phpBB2/includes/emailer.php

It's coming from my website, I'm gonna see what I can do.

OK boys, I have fixed the problem. You should not get any problems with PMs now. ;)

PS:
Eric, I have also fixed the limit of the signature to 500 characters. Tell me if it's not enough... Greedy you! ;)
Also, there's a tool that allows to convert all the messages from Ezboard to phpBB, and that's what I'm currently looking at.
