Joni's coming to town!
Yep, my school is giving an honorary degree to Ms. Joni Mitchell on Oct. 27th, plus they're holding a Joni Mitchell Symposium. Here's the program:

The Faculty of Music at McGill University will host a one-day Symposium on October 27, 2004, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at McGill's Redpath Hall. The Symposium will explore the music and art of Joni Mitchell from many perspectives. It is scheduled to coincide with the presentation of an honorary doctorate from McGill to Ms. Mitchell. Featured speakers will include John Kelly, Ann Powers, Jennifer Rycenga, Udayan Sen, Daniel Sonenberg, Greg Tate, Jacqueline Warwick, and Lloyd Whitesell. Respondents and moderators will include Howie Klein, Daniel Levitin, David Brackett, and Line Grenier.

Wow...

Why couldn't the Alberta College of Art & Design done something like that...*sob*

Now I really *do* miss school. McGill sounds like the place to be - at least on the 27th.

So, Joni was a bit spaced-out but adorable none the less.
The McGill Jazz Orchestra (featuring Christine Jensen, among others!) was on hand to play some new arrangements of Joni tunes.
Playlist was as follows:
The Priest
Both Sides Now
Case of You
Shadows & Light/ Dry Cleaner form Des Moines medley

Canada AM has been running a special interview segment with Joni recorded recently with Seamus O'Regan (he's so squeezable  ). Interesting thoughts on dealing with polio as a child, and what she thinks of being on the Bush iPod.
Check out the videos (links on the right of page).

Thanks for posting the links, scielle. I'd had every intention of getting up early o'clock to see this presentation, but alas, my body apparently needed the sleep more.
