Greetings friends and new acquaintances!

Postby Eric in Long Beach on 15 Mar 2005, 10:36

Pardon my ego if I suspect my absence has been noticed. Thanks to sj for prodding me to post. I'm glad to see all is well and good around here. Things are fine with me and my family. I've just been a wee bit busy, as should be assumed since this post is being done at 12:35am local time.

I'll try to pop by more regularly.

:D

Thank you, thank you.

phpbb doesn't like me because I never receive e-mail notification of replies despite my requests for notification. :?

BTW, nice portrait in your personal icon, Rémi. But with all due respect, I think it's time for a haircut. ;)

It's not phpbb, it's my stupid webhost that doesn't work fine.

I'll make a change for another - and I hope better - server on next may, though I don't have any idea what webhost I could choose, and I hope we won't get those boring errors messages and bugs anymore.

Nope, but we may be headed your way, Bud, at the end of the summer. We should get some news in the next couple months. If you don't hear any news from me about it, then I'm still in Long Beach. :D

Will be great if you make it out this way, Eric. If you're looking for a good public school system, think Fairfax County, VA...

We visited some firends in Alexandria last August. It seemed pretty nice. Is that in Fairfax County?

Alexandria borders on Fairfax County, but is not part of it. Here's a school district map:

Here is a page of stats for starters: ttp://www.fcps.k12.va.us/about/stats.htm

The schools are very well funded. Academic standards are high, as evidenced by SAT scores, but there is more to the schools than just academics. Music programs, for example, are very strong, which my kids are taking full advantage of.

Fairfax County is also the high tech center of the area, and is reasonably compared with Silicon Valley (no comparison on the weather though - thats another story)...

Hey! Bit by bit, it looks like the old gang is returning to the fold. I've only been lurking around here and there myself, reserving my comments for the most part. (I figured I'd been chatty enough on previous MB incarnations and that it was time to let the newcomers have their chance!)

It is really good to 'see' you again, Eric. Glad to hear all is well in Long Beach, too. :D :D
