D Day 60th Anniversary (1944-2004)

Postby Rémi on 06 Jun 2004, 19:30

I created this topic because I sincerely think it's an event we can't bypass.

I will make it short -I don't really know what to say- because I didn't live during that horrible period (in this case, I should let my father express himself on that subject, he knows better), though one thing is sure... if, today, I'm really grateful to live in my country, it's sincerely thanks to all of your guys and to the (more than) 3500 soldiers who gave their lives in order to liberate my land from the nazi barbarity 60 years ago. Who knows what would have happened if you had not been here...
So, as my president said, we will never forget.

No polemic, no political debate, just a personal thank you.

Thanks for your remembrance, Rémi. Both of our countries are enormously indebted to each other, for providing support and assistance during rough times.

Watching "Saving Private Ryan" gave me a whole new perspective on WWII.

D-Day 60th Anniversary

Postby Rick on 12 Jun 2004, 09:23

Remi,
You are a rare person indeed, to take time enough to remember the lessons of history. I didn't live through that horrible time, either, but I do know that if we pay no attention to history, we will be re-living its worst moments.

Thank you very much for remembering, and for your thanks, you're welcome! As an American, even though we have some disagreements with your government, which I will not discuss here, I certainly bear no ill will toward's the French people. I hope that eventually the relationship between the two governments will improve. It is true that each of our countries have come to the other's rescue at different points in history, and I hope that fact doesn't get lost in the current squabbles!

Again, my heartfelt thank you for your remembrance of the events at Normandy 60 years ago. We won't forget, either!!
