The Sun!

Postby Coda on 06 Jan 2006, 17:36

Okay, folks: This may seem trivial to some of you in sunnier or warmer climates, but I have to share with you all: It's sunny today in Michigan!

On the radio this morning (before dawn) the classical station DJ was saying that according to the weather service, Michigan had had only 16 minutes of sunshine since Dec. 19th. But dawn today was sunny! So even though it's biting cold outside right now, it's marvelous to see the sun!

I am envious, Coda. It seems like forever since we have seen the sun in Indiana -and today is another cloudy day here, complete with some sleet and snow flurries. Maybe the sunshine will drift south!!

Having recently moved from sunny southern CA to Oregon, the weather is quite a change for me..... but so far at least I am enjoying it !..... of course it is nothing here like you all are describing in your areas, but in the Pacific Northwest the weather changes many times during the day - from raining sideways to fog to brief but wonderful sunny patches..... and although nothing near as cold as it is in OH or Indiana, for a California boy it a bit on the chilly side here too !!

The worst part, I would imagine, would be having to get out in it to go to work, etc...... I am very glad to be semi-retired and working from my home so that I do not have to go out on (what I consider to be) cold or bad weather days !!!!

Our December here in Michigan (probably in Indiana and Ohio, too) included weeks of bitter cold and below-zero (F) windchills. The worst part was picking up multiple kids after school: Getting into a frigid car, waiting and picking up, driving to pick-up spot number two, waiting in a now-cool car and picking up again, then dropping off those two and driving again but in a now-cozy car only to have to get out of the warmth to walk a block in the frigid cold to pick up child #3, then delivering said child home again and then turning around in less than an hour and getting into the now-frigid-again car to take one or another kid to an extracurricular activity. In that weather, even if I can actually stay indoors for more than two hours straight, I never feel that I've warmed up completely. But it all feels different once the temps warm up into the 30s or 40s!
