A "Think" Piece

Postby Coda on 27 Jun 2004, 18:58

Okay, I thought I'd stir up the board a little with a "think" piece about the brain and how it registers different sensations--including music. For more info, just click on the sidebar about brain imaging. Enjoy!

Another think piece

Postby Coda on 06 Aug 2004, 19:43

Here's another article, this time from the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. (Saw it referenced in an article by Robert X. Cringely, and I was intrigued.)

You know the idea that people who really know a lot about something start to realize how little they really know--in a cosmic sense? Well, I would describe the idea of this article as a corollary to that idea: People who know very little about a subject think they know a lot more than they do. Or, incompetent people don't have a clue about how incompetent they really are! Or, those who talk the most, know the least!

Great article. The "unskilled and unaware" phenomenon is definitely something I've noticed, never made the meta connection, though. I just thought that it was arrogance that gave people overconfidence in their abilities, not lack of knowledge.
