Michelle - who's the Haida artist?

Postby scielle on 28 Aug 2004, 01:31

I've been wondering who the artist is behind the black-red-and-white Haida designs on those DK tour backstage passes I've been seeing around. The work looks very familiar, and I'm thinking Bill Reid - is that a correct assumption?
Any imput from anyone in the know would be appreciated (though I suspect Michelle would be the only one who can help me with this one...)
Thanks in advance, and cheers,

The artist of the backdrop is Lawren Harris. The painting is titled "Mountains After Rain, Jasper Park". It's listed in the tour book.
"Our emotions rise to meet the force coming from the screen, and they go on rising... When this happens in popular art form... it is sometimes disparaged as fannishness. But there's something that goes deeper than connoisseurship or taste. It's a fusion of art and love." - Pauline Kael

Oh no, that's not what I mean. Don't worry - I'm a good Canadian gril, I know my Lawren Harris and Group of Seven et all. What I'm asking about are those Haida designs on the backstage passes worn by DK's crew - you can see Michelle wearing one in that picture with Sax Lix.

I'm pretty sure it's Bill Reid. If I recall, Diana mentioned his artwork on the Vicki Gab show a while back when she and Michelle appeared.

Hi all,

You are right. It's the late Bill Reid.

Best,
Michelle
