Diana's New Sound and Image

Postby kjazz on 07 Mar 2009, 16:09

Hi!

I was wondering what you guys think about Diana's new phrasing/sound and image. I think she changed dramatically since " The Girl In The Other Room".
I'm not suggesting anything negative, though. It's just really different! If you're not a musician, you may not realize that big of a difference.(?)
I'm looking forward to hearing you opinions!

All the best.

P.S.:

"If you're not a musician, you may not realize that big of a difference.(?)" - obviously in her phrasing, not in her image.

I'm not too keen.
GITOR is still my favourite DK album, and I hope at some point she returns to that sound.
The clips I've heard of Quiet Nights are far too breathy for my liking, and it doesn't sound like this is an album where she'll be playing a lot of piano :( I don't know if I'll be getting it - though will certainly go to a concert if she comes this way.
And I don't like the new press photos one bit - completely overdone on the airbrushing (except the cover shot, I love that one).

To me, her albums recorded between 1993-2002 ( and the " Heartdrops" album) have the best sound/vibe and real freshness. I find them the best stylistically, pianistically and vocally. Her voice has changed so much... I'm not sure why she sings with so much vibrato in the lower range. However, she's the best:)

I agree, her sound has changed over the years. Its been a long since time since we've had an extensive selection of brand new material, so I"m looking forward to Mar 31.

Might use TLOL as a benchmark for comparison with QN, since Claus Ogerman is a key link between the two albums.
