VANCOUVER - Diana Krall will perform tunes from her upcoming new release Quiet Nights, May 13 at the Orpheum. The Grammy Award-winning jazz pianist and singer will be joined onstage by members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

Quiet Nights, set for release March 31, is inspired by Brazilian music and features three recordings of songs by bossa nova legend Antonio Carlos Jobim. The album reunites Krall with arranger Claus Ogerman for the first time since her multiplatinum 2001 album The Look of Love.

Krall has refered to her new work as "not coy, like Peel Me a Grape, but womanly — like you're lying in bed next to your lover and whispering this in his ear."

Her usual sidemen Anthony Wilson (guitars), Jeff Hamilton (drums) and John Clayton (bass), will accompany her on the tour, which will take her around the world. Krall hasn't performed on Canadian stages for five years.

Tickets for the Orpheum concert, go on sale Jan. 30 at Ticketmaster

Krall at her most Vancouver-esque

There was no hiding how pleased Diana Krall was to be performing on home turf, Wednesday night in Vancouver. The Nanaimo-born jazz singer was relaxed and chatty, riffing on everything from hockey to a Nat King Cole playoff she once took part in against Oscar Peterson. "I did not win that one," she smiled.

One of the more entertaining reviews in recent memory. There's more...

According to CBC Vancouver's Twitter feed: "... the [Orpheum] Diana Krall concert is being recorded and will be on CBC Radio 2 on June 4."

Another nice review: Diana Krall brings sexier-than-ever sound to the Orpheum

http://www.canada.com/Entertainment/Dia ... story.html

Smooth-voiced jazz sensation Diana Krall brought plenty of heat to the Orpheum on Wednesday night, and her charm wasn't lost on the crowd.

For starters, the 43-year-old's latest sound is sexier than ever, drawing inspiration from Brazil and the bossa nova style, perfect for her come-hither pipes.

There is a photo gallery of the concert too. Two of the images from the preceding post came out of it:

I love the line about Diana's vocals giving off "a chilly kind of heat." Wow.

I was at this concert - it was truly wonderful. Her solo performance of "A Case of You" was the highlight for me, followed by her new tune "Walk on By". The whole band was terrific, and she seemed on top of the world, although perhaps a bit tired at the end of a long tour.

Before she came on they were playing what I thought was her music. I heard the song "Don't Fence Me In", and was sure it was Diana, but cannot find anywhere that she's recorded that song. Anyone know if she has and where I might find it on CD or for download?

Hi rroscoe -- Sorry for the news, but the results of your search are correct - Diana has never recorded Don't Fence Me In. Its not that unusual, though, for her to play it or quote it...
