Broward Center celebrates 20th anniversary with gala and performance by Diana Krall

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts (BCPA) celebrates its 20-year anniversary on Feb. 5 with "An Evening with Diana Krall."

A musical performance by Grammy Award-winning artist Diana Krall takes center stage at the gala, which will also include a pre-performance cocktail reception in the Peck Courtyard, gourmet gala dinner on the Lochrie Family Stage in the Amaturo Theater, and premium seating for Krall's show in the Au-Rene Theater.

With her familiar breathy vocals and rhythmic lilt, pianist and singer-songwriter Diana Krall wows critics and sells out concert halls everywhere. Since winning a Grammy for best jazz vocal and having the first jazz disc to be nominated for Album of the Year in 25 years for "When I Look in Your Eyes," the multi-platinum artist has written a new chapter in acoustic jazz improvisation and become a pop-jazz sensation.

"We are delighted to have a celebrated artist like Diana Krall as our headliner," said Robert B. Lochrie, III, a board member of the Broward Performing Arts Foundation and co-chair of the gala with wife Brooke and Cynthia and Ramón Rodriguez. "It's been a special honor to be involved with this event because the Center has been so important to my family and our community."

Rodriguez, a member of the Performing Arts Center Authority, reflected on the BCPA's 20-year history. "This institution has been providing programs of excellence to the people of South Florida for two decades. 'An Evening with Diana Krall' will be a highlight of our anniversary season and will be remembered well into our next 20 years."

Host committee members for the night are Tracy and Charles Dunn, Jeannie and Steve Hudson, Julie Pabst and Tim Ingham, Lois and John Schmatz, Jamie and Terry Stiles, Kim and Randall Sweers, and Christine and Richard Welch.

Sponsors for the event include silver sponsor AutoNation and bronze sponsors BankAtlantic, Northern Trust, Southern Wine & Spirits, and Stiles.

The BCPA presents more than 700 events each year to more than 700,000 patrons. It offers a wide range of cultural programming and events to South Florida residents and thousands of tourists annually. The Broward Performing Arts Foundation, a nonprofit corporation, receives and maintains funds to promote, sponsor and develop the BCPA.

"An Evening with Diana Krall: Celebrating 20 Years of Applause" starts with a cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m. followed by a gala dinner at 6:15 p.m. and the Diana Krall performance at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $500. For tickets or information, call 954-468-3289 or e-mail foundation@

As part of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts 20th year anniversary, Diana Krall joined the celebration with a spectacular live performance. Diana tickled the ivories with precision, gloriously sang and entertained the patrons at the sold-out venue.

Hey, Bud...thanks for the plug! Interviewing Diana would be a bucket-list item for me!
Seems like some of the reviews were mixed...either they loved it or hated it. Sometimes you wonder what people expect when they go to a jazz concert.

But someone commented on her shoes, and I wish there was a picture of Diana in her shoes. Anybody out there get one?
