The enormity of this event is hard to grasp.
Japan is the country of my ancestry. My family, however, has been in the US for quite a few generations, going back to the 1920s. My parent's generation had some continuing family ties, but they are mostly gone now. Personally, I've only visited Japan once, and I don't speak the language.
I must admit, though, that stories like this help me appreciate the culture that I'm historically tied to:
