Paul McCartney To Release Pop Standards Album

Postby Bud on 16 May 2011, 13:34

Hope this is true!

Paul McCartney has just finished recording an album that's devoted to covers of pop standards from the pre-rock years.
He worked with an orchestra to record nearly a dozen songs, including some with Diana Krall and her band.

Paul McCartney: Next Album Standards, with Diana Krall

Exclusive: Paul McCartney‘s next album: he’ll celebrate his 70th birthday next year with a CD of standards. He’s been recording with Diana Krall and her jazz musicians. Tommy LiPuma, the legendary Warner Bros. producer of George Benson and Miles Davis, Anita Baker, and Dr. John, is guiding the project. Sources tell me that the album contains standards–’But not the usual ones’– and some new songs Paul wrote just for this record. Paul knows Krall, of course. He’s recorded a lot with her husband, Elvis Costello.

Wow, DK is certainly going to get a lot of press out of this. Only “officially” announced a few hours ago, and “Paul McCartney” and “My Valentine” are already 2 of the top 10 worldwide trending topics on Twitter. Hm.

Thanks mapache61! I wonder how much Diana will sing? Plenty of piano accompaniment would be fine too!

Oh, and by the way... GO NINERS - BEAT THE SAINTS!!!

DK is singing on this? Did I miss something? If so, you'll have to let me know. I don't buy Macca albums. And don't know anyone else who does.

Ah yes, your beloved Niners. I predict a very close game. If Gore, and/or the other RB (whats-his-face) have a big day, I'm going with SF by a field goal. Maybe even a touchdown or 10 pts. If Brees and Sproles go wild, forget it. Good luck.

Been pretty ambiguous about whether we'll hear more on the album but the band. Guess we'll have to wait a little longer to find out for sure.

But I have more important things to worry about right now... it's GAMEDAY!!!

Awesome weekend all around! Nice prediction mapache61. It was close. Way too much of a nailbiter. But it all worked out in the end.

Since the Giants beat the Packers, there will be - unbelievably - a home NFC Championship game for the Niners. I'm flying out Friday to be there on Sunday. Pumped

NYG @ SF is going to be another close one. And though NY suddenly seems like a very dangerous team (they just went to freezing Lambeau and laid a beatdown on the Pack), I still give a slight edge to the Niners.

Flying out? Dang. Rich man! Have fun.

Superbowl prediction: NE vs SF

There's a full stream of the album here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2012/jan/30/paul-mccartney-kisses-on-bottom-stream

Diana's fingerprints are all over this! You can hear her signature style throughout.
This is very cool - I'm glad she got the opportunity to do this!

Also, nice video with Paul and Tommy with lots of DK content: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2CAuZbKtKg

Thanks scielle. Agree that you can hear Diana's fingerprints. Even by just listening to the 30 second clips, there's no doubt about it :eek
