Olympics!! It's getting exciting 'round here!

Postby scielle on 16 Jul 2012, 17:20

Olympic signage has been up in my neighbourhood for about 2 weeks now. Athletes are starting to arrive. Staff and volunteers at every corner.

And, as it stands as of last night's rehearsal, I will be about 2m away from the cauldron for much of the Opening Ceremony. (I'm one of the volunteer performers in the show; get to bang on a bucket (you'll understand, if you watch it), and then marshal the athletes during the Parade of Nations.) Such good fun.

Scielle,
The misses will surely torture me with the opening ceremonies on TV. How will we know which one is you? Will you wear a Diana t-shirt? Can you flip the bird to the cameras? Please distinguish yourself so I can say, "Baby, look! That's the Legendary Scielle from the Diana board. I know her!"

Yes, I'm drunk. So what....

Agree, it was a special opening ceremony!

You were really fortunate to be able to take part in it, scielle! Did you get to meet Kenneth Branagh or anything like that?

Not him, no, but did get to hang out with Danny Boyle (who is such a class act and very accessible despite the huge weight on his shoulders) and Rick Smith of Underworld (who is soo much fun). I was a drummer in the Industrial Revolution section (which didn't come off that well on TV; waaay more powerful in the stadium), and then came back to marshal for the parade of athletes. Was about 3 meters from the cauldron as it went up! Once in a lifetime. All us volunteers had such an amazing time.

I'm not a big fan of opening ceremonies, but what I saw of this one was entertaining. Glad you enjoyed, scielle.

I had not heard of this NBC outrage. But Bud, really, what did you expect? Their Olympics coverage sucks every time around.
