Oh no. I strongly disagree on Silver Linings. I found it annoying, in the extreme. And never once did I forget Cooper was "acting" bipolar. And to top it off, how could anyone (especially a 49ers fan like you, Bud) praise any movie that celebrates the hateful Philadelphia Eagles?

Jennifer Lawrence is good. Her best performance was a few years ago in "Winter's Bone." Have not seen American Hustle.

I thought The Fighter was pretty good. But no way can it match the actual Ward-Gatti fights from the early 2000s. Man, those were some of THE best fights of the modern boxing era.

Almost forgot. Do not bother with the latest Superman flick, "Man of Steel." I actually like superhero/action movies if they're done well. This was just a waste of 2 hours.

Finally saw "20 Feet From Stardom." You were right, Bud. An outstanding documentary.

"All is Lost" -- the Robert Redford stranded-alone-at-sea picture.

This is a tough one. Though it's a methodical (some would charge "boring"), fight-to-stay-alive story, it also has some thematic layers I found interesting. But you'll have to combat drooping eyelids, watch close and think about it. This is decidedly not Tom Hanks talking to a volleyball in Castaway, which I found cheesy. Worth a dvd rental? No. But not a complete waste of your time either.

The Rotten Tomatoes site says this gets an average 93%-positive rating from critics. That's way too high.

this is an interesting board................so, I might be late to the party but I just saw 'Blackfish'..............anyone else see this film/documentary? I love these animals and now think that unless there's a medical reason to keep these giants in pens till they have recovered from whatever they deserve to be left alone in the seas...................anyone else view this one?

Gundy, first off, congratulations (?) on being the first board member other than Bud or myself to post on this thread. Now, about your movie...

Have not seen Blackfish, though I remember reading an article when it came out. I don't like zoos. And I despise Sea World. In fact, call me a sick man but I smile when I hear an orca has bitten its "trainer." Sir/mam, you have NO business messing with a KILLER whale. If you do, you are no smarter than the fish treats you feed them.

So what about those BORING Oscars? Did not see the big winner "12 Years A Slave" or any of the others. Though I have "Nebraska" here on dvd. Will watch soon.

And Academy Award winner, to boot!

I haven't seen Blackfish, 12 Years a Slave, or Nebraska either. I saw American Hustle, and am surprised it got shut out. I believe Gravity deserved the technically-oriented awards it got. I thought her was enjoyable, but a bit overrated.

Nebraska was pretty good. A nice character study.

RE: Blackfish.
Gundy, I read a story that San Diego is considering a ban on orca shows at Sea World. Google it.

Just saw Gravity. It was good, despite Sandra Bullock panting and being annoying for 90 minutes. The digital sfx were beautiful. And the movie zipped right along. Never boring. Like Bud, I recommend it.
