I think I must echo Bono in saying that this was indeed the best Grammy show in recent memory. They really made it about the music; great variety of performances, match-ups you're unlikely to see elsewhere. It moved along nicely, and methinks it worked rather well.
Stevie Wonder, Blind Boys of Alabama, Franz Ferdinand, Green Day, Bonnie Raitt, Joss Stone & Melissa Etheridge (wow! Joss so deserved that best new artist statuette. In fact she deserved it last year.), and Loretta Lynn were the highlights for me.
Overall, v. glad for some of the winners, v. baffled by others - but hey, award shows are fickle beasts. Nice to see soul, gospel, blues, jazz featured so prominently; a definite improvement on years past (and I think DK can take some credit for that...) Generally solid, quality performances; they certainly butchered Across the Universe though...
By the way, I don't think EC was planning to be there - he's touring in the UK right now. Had a show in Coventry tonight, and is playing Edinburgh tomorrow.
