What does Diana think when...

Postby TheViolinSkirt on 30 Nov 2005, 03:09

she's shopping in a store and hears herself singing on the intercom?

I was in Pier1 the other day and Diana came on singing Jingle Bells. When my ears picked it up, I smiled and began tapping along while searching for the perfect drape/curtain.

This had to have happened to her at one point. What's the reaction?

Here's your answer!
After lunch, we walk along Union Square West toward the big Barnes & Noble store, where Krall wants to pick up a book. Standing on the up escalator, she says excitedly, "Hey, that's me!" Drifting in and out of the dull roar of shoppers' conversations, we hear "When I Grow Too Old to Dream," the final track on All For You. Her recording is becoming ubiquitous. Having been in New York for less than 24 hours, I've heard it in a restaurant, a record store and now a bookstore. I ask Krall if she isn't getting used to her popularity by now. Crinkling her brow, the so-called sex symbol with the "smoldering eyes and the dangerous past" thinks about it for a few seconds before breaking into a wide schoolgirl's grin.

"No!"

This is from an old article - circa '97 - so maybe things have changed... Anyway, you can find the full article (and a good one, too!) in this thread:

Didn't Diana say somewhere that she was shopping (I think in London) when Besame Mucho started playing on the sound system, and two guys in the store were asking themselves what it meant. It sounded as if she got a kick out of it and I thought she said she told them it means "Kiss me much," but she didn't tell them she was the one singing it.

Anyone else remember that story? Corrections? Additions?

Yes Coda, it was on "Vicki Gabereau Show" in December of 2002. You recalled it very correctly; she was at Ralf Lauren's shop buying present for her tour manager :)

Oh, we're good. We're shamefully good.
Is this a sign of unhealthy obsession?

I think we all passed 'unhealthy obsession' years ago and are now firmly into 'Kralloholicism' !!... :eek

 Yes, you're all right. I remember both articles. I wonder how she feels with today's popularity. I bet she's still grinning with disbelief.
