I found this article on the Toronto Special web page.
It pretty much criticizes Diana , saying that she's got quite a cranky mood only when she's off cameras. Can this be true ? has anyone read this before?

Hm. Looks like some hearsay landed on a reporter's desk and they blew up a story with it. Tabloïd standard procedure.

This is the first piece of the kind I see about DK, so it is worth noticing and I am going to loose a little bit of my time and yours making comments.

Firstly this site doesn't expand on trivia, to say the least, there has hardly been a reaction. (You should see the jive on other sites, actually it is quite amusing to read, fantastic way to forget eveything when you're preoccupied).

Secondly, if this is the price of celebrity then it could be worse. Than being notoriously "cranky".
Plus it doesn't say she is (generally) cranky, it is about specific circumstances (some kayaking/camping venture). Now if the story is true, I am a very understanding person but I imagine I would have been more than cranky (that's when you are unwell and of course it makes things worse). I would be p!###d off and seriously.

You know if you are over forty years old, you've been working a lot, you've been around the block and through a lot of bull###t, you don't need a lousy bed/ yukky food if that is not necessary. :lol:

Obviously, you don't report these things to the press.

The publication does look kind of "National Inquirerish" to me......

That's got to be one of the bad things about being in the public spotlight..... you can't even be grouchy when you feel like it for fear that it will wind up as a headline !...... I am surprised that the rag didn't add that the reason for the 'incident' was really that aliens had taken over her body and her real mission that day was to kidnap everyone and take them back to the Mother Ship !!...... :freak:

Hi, Victoria. Thanks for your post. As you know, we on this site enjoy when others surf the web and find tidbits of information about Diana, whether or not it's flattering to her. As far as I'm concerned, that's what you did. I think it says a lot that you felt this article would a fair airing on this site--you wouldn't hold it back because the article has a negative tone.

That said, I think the members of this group do what we always do when such an article is found: comment on it, dissect it, and otherwise give our humble opinions. So I think it's reasonable to take any comments about this article in that spirit.

I have no idea if the allegation of crankiness in the article is accurate or not. I know I've read that Diana has a long history of enjoying outdoor activities, such as skiing, mountain-biking and fishing with her Dad. As a writer and sometime-journalist, I also noticed in the article that none of the people alleging crankiness would put their names on the record. I don't mind complaining within reason (I do my fair share) but one has to notice, too, that the people supposedly talking about Diana also are complaining -- this time, though, it would be about Diana.

If she was cranky (don't we all get way sometimes?) the article seems to make a big deal that she turned the crankiness off when something interrupted the mood. It's not clear what that something is. I enjoy reading about psychology, and one of the things I remember reading years ago was that it's not hypocritical if you're mad and then someone else comes into the group or a different event takes place and, basically, interrupts your mood then you turn uncranky. That's a natural response--I think we've all been in that position. What this psychology article said is that it would hypocritical if, after the interrupting event, you suddenly revert back to the crankiness. Then you can be sure that the uncrankiness was just an act. When I read that, I thought it rang true with my experience.

Anyone here remember the old Mary Tyler Moore show from the early 1970s? (I'm dating myself here, but I'll continue.

) I'm thinking about the character of Sue Ann Nivens, the "Happy Homemaker." She would come into the newsroom dripping venom, then someone she was trying to impress would come in and she'd change her tune. Then after that person left, she'd resume her earlier tone.

Just my ten cents' worth of pop psychology.

Exactly .
I really enjoy browsing the web and finding new stuff, either good or bad. And because Diana is not fond of the press, there aren't so many new things about her. Whenever I do find a new tidbit, I want to share it with those who probably didn't find it. I guess my usual fault is to post the low-standard, junk photos, articles or whatever that I happen to run into.

Coda: I was really interested in your psychological point of view. What you said reminded me of an old movie called "Mommie dearest" ,based on the life of Joan Crawford . In the film, Mrs. Crawford is deeply cruel to her adopted children, and when cameras are rolling she portrays an image of a loving, perfect mother. One creeeepy movie. Kept me having nightmares for a week. :shock:

Thanks to Coda. Concerning sudden "uncrankiness", there is also the case when it is an act indeed, but arguably justified. For example, say, you are working with others on a project of some sort, and people on the team mess up; You are displeased, but if you have to support the project publicly you decide to hide your feelings and put a brave face because it wouldn't be proper to expose the mess and would only harm the project.

Very interesting information about OCD, imnoangel. Going through the links, I actually found out that I suffer from a problem called "Compulsive skin picking". I felt like crap about it at first, but then there was this forum link with a lot of people going through the same , and it made me feel better to know that I wasn't the only maniac in the world who picks on skin. So, thanks. It was helpful.

I've never heard of this 'publication', either.
I'm never one to believe everything I read, anyway. Never thought I'd see the day that there'd be tabloids taking shots at Diana. Guess you know you're a true celebrity when they print unflattering articles about you.

Even if these "allegations" are true, and that Diana was cranky, and complained about the conditions on the trip, big deal. Smile for the cameras! Make a good scene when the paparzzi are watching! Isn't this what we expect?

All I know, is that Diana Krall was sweet enough to give me a shout out during the encore of a concert she played in my hometown. I'd posted on the old boards that I'd really be thrilled if she performed 'A Case of You', (this was prior to her recording it) and when she did, I was the only one who whooped it up during the opening bars. Diana said: "That must be Karla."

Malign Diana all you want, in any forum, for any reason...but that one moment in time, at that concert, well...They can't take that away from me.

Cranky Diana? Maybe. But not in my presence.

I've read that in France, OCD is called the "doubting disease." I've had OCD for years. It's not fun but there are worse affections. More people are becoming aware of this. Many like me, are now not as fearful of admitting this. Of course. Howard Hughes is the classic example.
There is a gentic element. I'm just trying to enlighten y'all.
