Krall Eyeing September For New Album

Diana Krall will release her next studio album Sept. 12 via Verve. The as-yet-untitled album was co-produced by Krall and longtime collaborator Tommy LiPuma, who has been behind the boards with the artist since her 1994 sophomore effort, "Only Trust Your Heart."

The set will feature Krall's interpretations of standards like "From This Moment On," "How Insensitive" and "It Could Happen to You" in quartet and large band settings. Guitarist Anthony Wilson and the Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orchestra join the artist on the record.

Though there's no word yet as to a supporting tour, Krall is scheduled to perform at Jazz Aspen Snowmass in Aspen, Colo. on June 23 and then hit Europe for a handful of summer festival dates.

This will be Krall's first release since 2005's "Christmas Songs" and her tenth studio set overall. "The Girl in the Other Room" from 2004 peaked at No. 4 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 872,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

In related news, Krall is tipped to appear on Vince Gill's next studio album, due later this year.

There are some good songs there. It should be an interesting CD.

"Little Girl Blue" is apparently also on the setlist:

I'm happy to see Diana going back to the trio/ quartet arrangements - wasn't too keen on all those strings several years ago. And while I don't generally care much for Christmas material per se, that album was decidedly swinging and obviously her forte, so it'll be nice to hear that big band set-up translated into non-seasonal tunes. I'm really looking forward to this one! (And hoping My Shining Hour will find its way onto the record - I absolutely loved the arrangement she played in Ottawa last summer.)

I hope that she includes something in a more contemporary vein ala Joni Mitchell-I was so impressed with her being able to show that side of her talents on the last CD.I would be surprised if she didn't,actually.

Diana had mentioned "Edith and the Kingpin" some time ago. I, for one, would be totally excited if she covered that gem of Joni's.

But whatever Diana's decided to do this time around, I'm there!

Steve Greenlee: Ali Larter, the actress who plays Niki on the show (Heroes), could be your twin sister. She looks just like you.

Diana Krall: Poor thing.
