Official site out of the loop ?

Postby jazzanddianafan on 05 Aug 2006, 06:17

At the risk of becomming even more on the outs than I might already be with the comments I have made in the not so recent past, I feel as a fan that has attended 10 or more concerts all over the Western US & Canada, I must say that I have been dissapointed with the 'official site' lately.....

The 'Q & A' portion of the 'fan club' site has not been updated in a long time and the goal of answering a question per week has long since been abandonded. I am not saying that the site should answer a question per week; but if you say that is what you are going to do, then either do it or don't commit to that goal.

I understand about the official site not saying anything about the Las Vegas gig that was cancelled before it was even announced, but this latest benefit in Canada, for which tickets went on sale this week, has had no mention on the official site.

In this faster than fast internet age, if an artist is going to have an 'official' site then I just think it should be updated and maintained better than this.

I would like to add a disclaimer that I in no way 'blame' any member of the DK team personally for this, I just think a person of Diana's stature and prominence deserves a more up to date and technically accurate website.

Am I alone in this tirade ?.... is it just that I have gone off my personal meds again ?....... is this something I am going to apologize for later ?.... Maybe I am expecting the 'official' site to be more than it should or can be ?....... can I have a reality check from my fellow kralloholics out there ?

Nope, you're not alone.

The News section is updated very sporadically, and with significant delays, quite often posting random article links to 'dead' pages, while omitting more relevant 'news'.

And yes, the site definitely needs a legitimate interactive component. I understand not wanting to moderate a message board - though many official sites seem to have no problem doing just that, plus come on, I think we police ourselves quite well here - but like you say, the Question of the Week section, is misleading, to say the least.

The Appearances section is often incomplete too, omitting TV and radio shows and the like. There was a concert in Portugal on Jul. 19th - and no, I don't believe it was a private one, but was part of a festival - which I don't think ever made it to the Appearances listings.

The site is by no means a definitive source for media files, either. There are videos available on the Verve site, or via other legitimate/ legal sites, which never seem to show up on the official site.

I also find it a little strange that there is so little mention of Diana's band; I think when you're playing with the musicians of the stature of the guys Diana's playing with, they surely deserve some recognition. I love Rémi's section here, linking to different 'related artists' sites.

Just my 2 cents. Yeah, that site need some love. But thankfully we have this one! (Thanks Rémi!)

I agree with you both... though I will not add more comments, because I too don't have time to update the DKF website as often as I would like to.
But since dianakrall.com is owned by the Verve Music Group (see the source <meta name="generator" content="The Verve Music Group">), I don't think it would be "too much" for them to hire someone to take care of the official site. They can afford it.

Being a webmaster is a job.

The team is perhaps too busy dealing with fans who apply for "friend" status on "myspace" ... ;)
I don't blame that, seems to make lots of people happy, so why not ?

But I agree that the "official" site needs some fixing. It can be minimal, it's a choice, but even then it should be maintained in a consistent way (for example, it's interactive or it's not).

See the price of being super professionel and a perfectionist ? Attracts perfectionist fans ! Such big pains !

Site is Shut Down

Postby TRX-C on 20 Sep 2006, 06:17

Looks like someone was paying attention. The official site is under renovations. Yay!!!!

I agree. I find more accurate and/or up-to-date listings of appearances and news here on Remi's site than on the official site.

Yeah, but this is something that should have happended well before yesterday. The album had been out in Europe for over a week and a half and the official site barely mentioned the new recording. Obviously this is the time it would be getting the highest traffic - with various online articles linking to it 'n' all - it should have been updated at least several weeks ago. Even now, it's pretty much the same info, with a different look. And the 'Appearances' section is still out of date...

I wish the official site would already be listing all the upcoming concerts. I'm trying to make summer plans and have no idea if Diana will be coming to the southeastern Michigan or southwestern Ontario anytime this summer or fall. Thanks to all the vigilant fans on this site who have been picking up links to some concerts already. Looking at some of those ticket prices, though, I'm a bit scared that, even if we are in town during a concert, we might not be able to afford the tickets (college tuition for three kids).

My thoughts exactly, coda
I know she's coming to Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto
on May 6 but can't find tickets anywhere.
And I sure know what you mean about tuition, I have 2 in college
myself, and another one coming too soon!

The volunteer "labor of love" websites for Diana have been much better than the official ones, IMHO. Paul Nish and then Rémi have done a great job at showcasing Diana.

On an aside, it sounds like we have new subgroup forming here! I too am paying one college tuition, with another coming up in a little over a year...

I am sad to say that the tirade I started almost a year ago is still valid....

When it comes to tour information, fans look to the official site for up to date news. Many DK fans have maybe not found us here and rely on ticketmaster or the official site for upcomming tour info.

I have counted over 16 gigs which have been announced in the press, by the venue itself, or thru band member's websites - and with at least 1 of those (Hollywood Bowl) tickets are already on sale - and still no mention on the official page.

Is it Verve ?.... Is there some contractual problem that I don't understand about the touring process ?.... I have a few different artists I would like to see live this year and I wonder if all of the offical sites have this lag problem ?..... :dunno:

I checked out what the Verve tour listing has (as opposed to the official site). Here is the link: http://www.vervemusicgroup.com/touring.aspx

You'll need to do a search on Diana - I don't know how provide a direct link to the query.

It has a better overall list than the official site, but its still not complete. They missed Wente Vineyards, but even worse they missed Wolf Trap!

I'm mystified by the lack of attention...
