Diana Krall, Elvis Costello Welcome Twins

FRIDAY DECEMBER 08, 2006 05:15PM EST

Singers Diana Krall and Elvis Costello welcomed twins on Dec. 6, PEOPLE has learned.

Boys Dexter Henry Lorcan and Frank Harlan James were born in New York City, according to a rep for the couple, who adds, "Mother and sons are doing splendidly."

Krall and Costello said in a statement, "We are ecstatic!"

The babies are something of a third-anniversary gift for Krall, 42, and Costello, 52, who wed in London on Dec. 5, 2003.

In September, Krall told PEOPLE she's genetically disposed to a double delivery: "I have twins on my mother's side as well."

And she knew even then that she wouldn't dress her kids up in matching outfits: "Nah," she said with a laugh, "I won't be doing that."

Twins for Elvis Costello & Diana Krall
-
Friday, December 8, 2006

(12-08) 16:13 PST New York (AP) --

Elvis Costello and wife Diana Krall are the parents of twin boys. The new arrivals — named Dexter Henry Lorcan and Frank Harlan James — were born on Wednesday, according to a statement from the couple. "We are ecstatic!" the statement continued, going on to add that "mother and sons are doing splendidly."

The births came on the couple's third wedding anniversary. The statement provided no other details on the twins.

Costello, 52, is a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer known for songs like "Veronica,""Pump It Up" and "Alison." He most recently collaborated with Allen Toussaint on the album "The River in Reverse." The 42-year-old Krall, a jazz singer, released her latest album, "From This Moment On," in September.

The couple live in New York. This is Costello's third marriage, and Krall's first.

Blessings on the new babies, Dexter and Frank, and on the proud Mom and Pop.

What a nice 'anniversary' gift for the couple. I think we're all happy the babies are healthy, and that Diana is doing fine.

CONGRATULATIONS, KRALL AND MACMANUS families!

A double blessing!

Postby Krallstello_fan on 09 Dec 2006, 08:28

  Two little blessings for the queen and her king! I am so relieved that everything went well, and that Diana and babes are healthy and happy. :D
Congrats to mom and dad, a job well done! No finer Christmas gift than a beautiful set of baby boys!
Elvis already has a grown son named Matthew, and a few brothers from when his dad remarried. Lots of men in that McManus clan! [/b]

Congratulations to the new family! Once you add a child to your family, you are never the same. Everything changes for the better and you almost can't remember what life was like before they came along. They are in for some neat experiences ( as well as stresses.)

Yay babies!!! :blob:

Those are very nice (and real!) names; no Apples or anything. And what great timing! It's a good thing they had twins to spread the name wealth, otherwise that would make for one messy passport. Just don't go hyphenating those last names now!

Aww, I'm so happy for them and glad all are doing well. Enjoy your little bundles of joy, Diana and Elvis!

Yeah, that was my first thought, too. Frank's a little predictable, but I really like Dexter and the other ones. Diana's father is James, right?
Lorcan is Irish/ Gaelic and apparently means "little fierce one". Cool.

Now that the good news is here, I want more details!

Identical or fraternal twins?
Height and weight of the little ones?
C-section or regular delivery?
Was there a family contingent from both sides in New York?

I think it was smart to wait a couple days before announcing the births. Gives everyone a chance to rest up (a little), and, with a normal delivery, you already maybe be home and eating regular food again.

I don't think we'll be getting that kind of detail. If they wanted to let the world know, they'd have done so in the original statement. I think they're trying to minimize the media hoopla - notice the pregnancy announcement was made on the weekend, too? Fewer ppl keep tabs on Friday night news, and by Monday - it's no longer news. Clever.

So - do they have triple citizenship?
