I Like the New Songs on Very Best

Hi Everyone:

Am listening to my newly purchased deluxe edition of the Very Best (got a hard copy rather than a download in case I might want to get DK's autograph on it. I am very much enjoying the songs which are new to me -- You Go to My Head, The Heart of Saturday Night and Only the Lonely. So far, I am especially taken with You Go. Haven't watched the DVD yet.

What do you think?

Since I had all the CD tracks except Only the Lonely, the DVD bonus was worth the price of admission. Although, thanks to YouTube, iTunes, and the official site, the videos were available, having them in DVD quality audio and video is great!

I especially liked Fly Me to the Moon, which featured the format we just saw on Regis and Kelly: Diana and John Clayton.

The DVD special cost only an extra $2.00 at Borders, so there's really no reason to pass it up...

Watched the DVD, too. Some of them are available as extras on the Live in Paris DVD. I *love* the very nice, decrescendoed version of "Temptation." Excellent. Reminds me of what she and the boys did with "S'Wonderful" on the current tour, though I think its done even better here with Temptation.

Do you know if the scenery in the "Almost Blue" video is around Vancouver Island? It sure feels like it. I've never been there, was in Seattle in Aug '93 on a business trip for DOE - that's the closest I've gotten. It feels very much like Diana at home in that video. It's lovely.

I only picked up CD today ( because our Target store did not have the CD/DVD even though it was in their ad; ordred it tonight through Amazon and will have by weekend). For some reason the quality of the audio on this selection seems to be much clearer than the songs were on some of original CD's I have; don't know if it's just my imagination or what but does anyone else think so too? Anyway, have played the CD several time already and am really liking the selection too. I'm excited about the videos too; I've seen them all but not on anything larger than my computer screen so am looking forward to watching them on the larger TV screen too! Tough to pick a favorite!

I agree, Sue. It does seem as though the selections on this CD are clearer than their predecessors on the orginal albums. I haven't listened to the entire CD, but it definitely seems to be the case for "I've Got You Under My Skin" and "Let's Face the Music and Dance." Very nice!

I am prepared to be charged with heresy, but here I go anyway:

I do not like "The Heart of Saturday Night." Granted, I've only given it two listens, but it is a boring addition to her catalog. Her singing is fine, but the arrangement, to the extent that one exists is minimal and adds nothing to the composition, which is uninteresting as it is. Blech! Overall, it seems like filler to me.

On the other hand, "Only the Lonely" and "You Go to My Head" are fantastic, and remind me of my favorites from WILIYE and TLOL. Thses songs will be on my heavy rotation for weeks to come.

Despite the advance press, I was a little disappointed that "Only the Lonely" was in fact the Sinatra song and not the Orbison one, which is not to diminish the redition DK presents. Rather, I would have been interested to hear her take on the Orbison tune.

I'm still holding out for her to cover "Enter Sandman" someday.

I have to agree. I *LOVE* "Only the Lonely" and "You Go to My Head." The latter, for me as for you, is an instant favorite. Definitely heavy rotatation for a good while to come. "The Heart of Saturday Night," well, perhaps it will grow in me. Doesn't knock my socks off, as so often Diana does.

"Only the Lonely" is, to my ears and taste, much, much better than Frank Sinatra's version, but then again, I am not the biggest fan of the Chairman of the Board. I love her version of "Fly Me to the Moon", though, but I don't think ANYone will ever outdo Frankie Baby on that song, which - my general distaste for much of his work notwithstanding - is one of my favorite things anyone has ever done. I love to sing along with him on that song, mimicking his brassy, bombastic style. Like to do the same with "New York, New York."

I just quickly scanned this thread to see if anyone else had this problem. I picked up a deluxe version at Target, and inside, I've found the regular CD, and then a McDougal Littell Pre-Algebra @HomeTutor CD.

I have to go now to do the school pick-up run, but I will be checking this out.

No, Coda, I haven't had that problem - I got the CD and DVD both correctly, but it's so funny, I thought of this when I almost threw my receipt away immediately when I got home last night. I wondered "under what circumstances could one get a refund on a CD/DVD purchase?" It occured to me that your situation is probably the only one! I guess I'm a little psychic!

I have been a Beckham fan since about 1996. I have 2 United and 2 England shirts with his name and number. And, up until April 2006, I lived 20 minutes from the Home Depot Center, where the Galaxy play. So, it was bittersweet for me when he came over here. I think he will do lots for American football once he starts playing regularly, thus I think it's tremendous that he's here. And he plays for my MLS team. In the little bit of time he had on the field, he was instantly the best player in the park, and his ability was beyond everyone around him, including Landon Donovan.

But he had to put off the transfer until after I moved out of town. Therefore, it is bittersweet.

Well, I went back to Target, showed them my receipt, my cellophane wrap with the Target price tag, and showed what I found inside the package. I got an unopened deluxe edition of the album, and I opened it in front of the customer service person, and another pre-algebra CD popped up again where the DVD should have been. So the customer service person said after two times like that, at Target, you get a refund. I will be trying again tomorrow at some other store.

There, there, Eric. You'll get to see him, I hope for your sake, when he's suited back up and his team makes a swing through DC.

I was in London last summer during the first round of the World Cup. The city was just about as energized as we are here for the World Series or the Super Bowl. It was a fun specacle to observe. I became a Becks fan at that point. His superb banana kick to win one of the early matches was clutch, and he pulled it off with panache at that! I was rooting for England from that point, but alas, as many a fan in London fretted in that first round at the time, it was not to be. The team simply was not firing on all cylinders. More's the pity.

I reckon I'll be getting an England jersey before too long.
