I really don't like Moore. It has nothing to do with his politics. I cannot stand Rush either. I wish those two would just fight to the death.

As for movies, I have only seen Harry Potter lately. I really liked it. My wife who read the book thought they left out too much and was very disappointed.

As for theaters, they should make theaters where you can recline in your underware. That would combine the best of home viewing and the theater.

Hey, has anyone else seen De-Lovely yet? I'm dying to know what everyone else thought of it.

Saw it tonight. Because of the mixed reviews, I had rather low expectations. But overall, I enjoyed it, even though it definitely wasn't perfect. I'll give it a 3 out of 5 stars.

I didn't like that they talked over a good portion of Diana's performance. It seems like a lot of the others had largely uninterrupted appearances.

I thought makeup artist who aged Kevin Kline did a fantastic job. It was the most natural looking I can recall seeing. Contrast it to Russell Crowe in "A Beautiful Mind" for comparison.

I laughed out loud too when Diana went after the ear! Couldn't resist - and it was kind of out of place; as Angelique mentioned, there was no set up for it at all.

Those that know me know I actually work at a movie theatre.

I get my flicks for free, luckily, but I haven't seen very many this year. I saw Harry Potter mainly because I was baby-sitting a neighbour. I've seen the first two, and thought this one was pretty good. Good special effects. I have not read the books, so I have nothing to complain about regarding how faithful or unfaithful the movie was to Rowling's writings.

One thing I have noticed working at the movies is that the somewhat-famous do drop in for shows from time to time. I've sold tickets to Calgary Flames players in the past - (We're gonna miss ya, Craig Conroy! Hope the Kings' fans treat you like one!) and just the other day Rick Schroder of 'Silver Spoons' fame dropped by to see 'The Notebook'.

I thought he looked familiar, but it wasn't until a fellow co-worker asked if it was Schroder that I had to stop and think about it. Of course, I'm not the type to go all ga-ga over celebs, so of course I didn't stop the guy and ask for an autograph, etc. But I could have lifted his VISA slip if I was really desperate ;).

Saw two movies today.
Spiderman 2 was lame . Terrible dialogue , boring story. Looked great but just not enough jumping around the place.

The only movie I saw is Anchorman... funny stuff! Except for the cheap reference to Bush at the end... but hey, that's Hollywood today.

I read Ciaig Unger's book "House of Bush -House of Saud." The documentary "Farienhiet 911" reflectd much of this book and the author was questioned in the film. I think that most of us tend to believe what we "choose" to believe. Although Moore was not without fault, he basically told the truth for me. I for one can't wait to get rid of the noeconservatives who plant dangerous idea. I'm talkng about a movie when I say this "op/ed" piece was not a pack of lies. That's how I decided to judge it. We in the USA are going to be judging this administration as well we should. So far we still have a Republic, but I'm worred about its future humanity.
Now I question the movie De Lovely." I would love to see Diana and it encourgaged me to read a lot about Cole Poter that was new to me.

We saw "De-Lovely" last night. Both of us thought it didn't seem like a two-hour-plus movie! It was very interesting. I knew some things about Cole Porter. I wound up being most impressed by Linda Porter's character!

I loved hearing/seeing today's singers in retro clothes singing Cole Porter tunes, especially Diana. I do think her dress was less than flattering, though. Nice to see her in film.

The Village

Postby jazzygal karla on 06 Aug 2004, 08:36

I've discovered that people either love or loathe this movie. I fall into the former category.

Working as I do in a movie theatre, I find a lot of people go into a movie expecting one thing, and being vastly disappointed when the movie does not meet that expectation.

I don't know whose fault it is, but there are a lot of folks out there who are under the impression that 'The Village' is a horror movie. M. Night Shyamalan was very cagey about releasing any plot details. He also does not want his movies pigeon-holed or categorized.

In Canada, this movie received a 'PG' rating. That alone ought to have clued people in as to how terrifying this movie could potentially be.

If you've not seen it, give it a chance. It's a good story with a twist that, while not unforseen, was still an interesting one. I enjoyed it, as I have enjoyed all of Shyamalan's movies.

I saw "Outfoxed" yesterday afternoon. (TWO THUMBS UP.)

For those of you conservatives out there, I'm not picking an argument and I don't want to get into the whole political trash talking who's a liar/who has an agenda thing. So that is my official disclaimer.

I just want to say that I loved this film and I thought it was a very good documentary. I'm impressed by the entertaining qualities of what could have very well turned out to be a very dry documentary. I found it interesting and pretty darned humorous. Nothing too terribly surprising about the subject; I had no new revelations about the Fox News Channel. But I thoroughly enjoyed the movie - it was well worth the $10 ticket.

I would recommend seeing it.

Danny Deckchair

Postby Bud on 08 Sep 2004, 04:55

We recently saw a lightweight but entertaining Australian movie -- Danny Deckchair. If you can ignore a few logical flaws - which you might as well, since this is about a fantasy! -- you might enjoy this romantic comedy. It took us a little bit of time to figure out where the movie was headed but it was fun once it got rolling.

Its based on an apparently true story where a guy attached a bunch of helium balloons to himself in Southern California in the early 80s, floated away, and couldn't get himself back to the ground. If memory serves me right, he was one of the first, if not *the* first, Darwin Award winners...
