Happy Thanksgiving

Postby Bud on 22 Nov 2007, 16:14

US holiday of course, but best wishes to all!

I learned of Chef Marc on a radio show I listen too. Here's his video of how to carve a turkey in two minutes:

Happy Thanksgiving to you, too, Bud! I couldn't get that two minute carving video to work for me, though. Hope you and yours enjoy the day.

Best,

Thanks Chris - heading out soon to be with family near Annapolis, MD...

Odd that you can't get the video work, since its YouTube. Any better luck with this link?

Thank you, Bud. The YouTube link worked much better. Very nice demonstration by Chef Marc. You know what's funny? I figured out this method of cutting independently, on my own. Pretty much the same approach. I use it with chickens more frequently than with turkeys, as I cook chicken more than turkeys (more accurately - I buy rotisserie chickens from the store, truth be told). I hadn't given it much thought as a big thing. Just seemed a quicker, more efficient approach to getting the meat off the bone. (Hope that last bit didn't gross too many people out. If so, sorry!)

Thanks again for the link, and I hope you had a fine holiday.

PS: Have you had chance, Bud, to check out "Raising Sand" or other work of Alison Krauss? I am surprised, given how many smart music lovers there are here, how totally shut out I have been in trying to initiate a discussion on her, a newfound, budding musical love for me. I was hoping to share in the fun of getting to know her lovely work! Not so much, it seems.

Hi Chris -- It is a little hit and miss in terms of getting discussions going on other artists. Thanks for the tip on Alison! I've been listening to quite a few clips on iTunes. She is definitely a special talent, but a little bit more country-oriented than is my taste.

I noticed she did "From This Moment On" - not the Cole Porter version, but one by Shania Twain. I'm guessing everyone knew that but me :-)

Hard to believe its almost December and holiday time. Anyone go out shopping on Black Friday? I didn't and don't plan to!

I never do Black Friday, Bud. Traffic jams and similar clusterfs are not to my taste at all.

I am quite smitted with Miss Krauss. Very nice stuff.

PS: You ever give the Dixie Chicks a listen? Alison Krauss has opened the door for me to them. I just watched "Shut Up and Sing," a movie documenting their experiences in the wake of Natalie Maines' derogatory comments about Pres. Bush just prior to the launch of the Iraq war. It is an excellent insight into an interesting story and into the work artists do in composing and producing an album. Add to that that I found the music lovely (I've enjoyed their stuff along the way but never have gotten into them - I think that will now change), and it makes for good watching and listening. I recommend it, and especially so for those who enjoy the DC's music.

I too just watched the Dixie Chicks film. I'm a very big fan of theirs & have always found them entertaining and have seen them in concert! My daughter and I think they are great! We very much enjoyed this documentary film and what eventually came out of it. Their latest album by the way is excellent!

Thanks so much, Sue. Glad you, too, enjoyed the film. My next music purchases will be Dixie Chicks albums, starting with their most recent, Grammy-winning, effort. Thanks again!

I think I saw the film too - at least some of it - but I can't remember when. It is interesting how Natalie recovered aafter all the heat she took over her criticism of Pres. Bush.

Natalie clearly is a fighter. A very strong-willed individual. (What am I doing up this late, BTW, you may ask? I took a nap early this evening, and am up late working on a big project. Just taking a break at the moment. :) )
