A new star-studded Christmas tradition is budding outside the Vancouver Art Gallery. For the third consecutive year, Vancouver-based developer Amacon will host a Christmas-tree-lighting celebration with free live entertainment.
On Tuesday evening, special guests Diana Krall and Elvis Costello will lead about 1,000 celebrants in a countdown before flipping the switch and officially lighting the tree.

The celebrity couple of Krall and Costello won't be crooning at the event, which starts at 5:30 p.m., but they will step to the stage at 6:44:50 p.m., along with former MLA Sindi Hawkins, to lead a 10-second countdown to light up the tree.
Amacon volunteers will be on hand, passing out goodies and running craft tables for kids. The entertainment will include special performances from the Vancouver Children's Choir and the Arimasu Taiko Drummers. The B.C. Lions, the B.C. Lions cheerleaders, the Vancouver Giants and Santa will engage with the crowd, while Rock 101's Bro Jake MCs the event.
